Harbinger has released a new commercial video spotlighting the performance attributes of its electric medium-duty step van. The short film takes a lighthearted approach to demonstrate the vehicle’s power, tight turning radius, and maneuverability in real-world conditions.
Highlights
- Harbinger’s new video highlights the electric step van’s agility, power, and turning capability in a format uncommon for the commercial truck segment.
- The step van platform spans Classes 4–6 with payloads up to 13,686 lbs and modular battery configurations offering 140–210 miles of all-electric range.
- A plug-in hybrid option extends range to 500 miles using a gasoline-powered onboard generator that recharges the battery pack.
- Harbinger reported nearly $90 million in vehicle sales in 2025 and currently works with roughly 65 dealers across North America.
A Different Tone for Commercial Trucks
The video marks a departure from the typical product-focused marketing seen in the medium-duty truck segment. Rather than a spec-sheet walkthrough, Harbinger opted for a playful, narrative-driven format that demonstrates the step van’s capabilities in action.
The approach aligns with a broader effort by the Garden Grove, California-based manufacturer to differentiate itself in a segment it argues has been underserved by traditional OEMs. Harbinger co-founder and CEO John Harris has previously stated that the company’s focus on Classes 4, 5, and 6 targets a market where electrification is already cost-effective and where competition remains thin.
Step Van Platform Overview
Harbinger’s electric step van is built on the company’s proprietary chassis architecture, which the company designs and manufactures entirely in-house at its Garden Grove facility. The platform includes the electric drivetrain, battery system, steering, and brakes.
Three wheelbases are available — 158, 178, and 208 inches — covering gross vehicle weight ratings from 16,000 to 26,000 lbs. Battery capacity scales in 35 kWh increments, with each pack adding approximately 35 miles of range. DC fast charging brings the pack from 20% to 80% in under one hour.
The chassis is validated to a 450,000-mile service life and is backed by a 10-year battery and drivetrain warranty. Harbinger says fleets can save up to $8,400 per year compared to diesel, with step van pricing starting at $103,000 before incentives.
Growing Product Line and Customer Base
The step van sits within a rapidly expanding Harbinger portfolio. At Work Truck Week 2026 in March, the company unveiled the HC Series Cab, a low-cab-forward model available in both all-electric and plug-in hybrid configurations. The HC Series Cab delivers 440 horsepower and more than 13,000 lb-ft of torque to the wheels.
Harbinger also recently acquired autonomous driving company Phantom AI and struck a licensing agreement with ZF Group. As a result, the company plans to equip its 2026 model-year trucks with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance.
The company’s customer roster includes FedEx, THOR Industries, and emergency vehicle builder Frazer. Harbinger plans to expand its North American dealer network from 65 to more than 200 locations by year-end.
