Honda Unveils Next-Gen Fuel Cell Module

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has officially revealed the specifications of its Next Generation Fuel Cell Module and Fuel Cell Power Generator at the H2 & FC EXPO – the 23rd Int’l Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Expo in Tokyo. The company aims to revolutionize hydrogen technology with reduced costs, enhanced durability, and improved power density. Mass production of the Fuel Cell Power Generator is set for 2026, while the Next Generation Fuel Cell Module will begin in 2027.

Key Highlights:

  • Next Generation Fuel Cell Module:
    • Cost reduced by 50% compared to the current model.
    • Durability more than doubled.
    • Volumetric power density increased by over 3x, enabling more flexible installation.
    • Rated output of 150 kW with 59.8% maximum efficiency.
    • Compact design: 730mm x 580mm x 700mm with a weight of 250kg.
    • Operates in temperatures ranging from -30℃ to +60℃ and altitudes up to 3,500m.
    • Ingress Protection: Equivalent to IP67 for robust environmental resistance.
  • Fuel Cell Power Generator:
    • Designed as an emergency backup power source for large facilities like factories and offices.
    • Connect up to four 250kW units for a total capacity of 1,000kW; scalable beyond 1,000kW.
    • Zero-emission output with no CO2 or NOx emissions.
    • Starts within 10 seconds for quick backup power availability.
    • Compatible with AC 200-480V, 3-phase systems.
    • Operates in temperatures from -25°C to +45°C and up to 2,000m altitude.
    • Noise levels maintained at 76dBA or less (@7m).
