HORSE Begins Production of New Hybrid Engine

HORSE Powertrain Solutions has officially started producing a new 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine designed for plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (PHEVs) at its Valladolid facility. This engine will initially be used in the Renault Rafale E-Tech Hybrid. The production at the facility is set to deliver 1,200 units per month, with plans to scale up to 6,875 units per month. The company has invested €4 million in this project, creating 345 jobs. HORSE Powertrain is a global leader in hybrid and combustion engine solutions, operating 17 plants worldwide.

  • Engine Specs: The 152PS, 1.2-liter turbocharged engine produces 230Nm of torque.
  • Production Target: 1,200 units per month, with potential to scale up to 6,875 units per month.

  • PHEV Powertrain Details:
    • First electric motor (front axle): 50kW and 205Nm
    • Second electric motor (rear axle): 100kW and 195Nm
    • Secondary HSG motor: 25kW and 50Nm
    • Total powertrain output: 220kW (300hp)
  • Battery: The PHEV’s energy will be stored in a 400-volt lithium-ion battery with a 22kWh capacity, offering a 100km electric range.
  • Fuel Efficiency: The PHEV will achieve a fuel consumption rate of 0.7 liters per 100km with CO2 emissions of just 15g/km.
