This award recognizes the vehicle’s outstanding blend of fuel efficiency and affordability, positioning it as a top pick for eco-conscious buyers who value cost savings.
Key Highlights
- Hyundai Elantra Hybrid wins overall Best Hybrid for the Money and compact car category
- Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid secures Best Hybrid in midsize SUV category

- Hyundai hybrid sales surged by 46% in April 2025, a record-breaking month
Cars.com assessed 2025 model-year hybrids without plug-in capabilities, focusing solely on an efficiency-cost rating. This metric determined whether a hybrid’s higher price tag is offset by its fuel savings, ignoring factors like equipment, quality, or ownership costs. The Hyundai Elantra Hybrid emerged as the leader, excelling in both the overall ranking and the compact car segment.
Ricky Lao, director of product planning at Hyundai Motor North America, stated, “As consumers evaluate the optimal solution for eco-friendly vehicles, Hyundai provides a wide range of product platforms and several propulsion systems.” He added that this recognition showcases Hyundai’s expertise in hybrid technology and its commitment to value-driven options.
Jennifer Geiger, News Editor at Cars.com, explained, “Hyundai stands out in this year’s rankings thanks to vehicles that pair high mpg ratings with competitive pricing.” The Elantra Hybrid Blue delivers a segment-leading 54 MPG combined, per EPA estimates, and introduces a new SEL Sport trim for 2025, available in both hybrid and standard powertrains.
The Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid also impressed, earning praise for its strong fuel economy and competitive pricing in the midsize SUV category. Jenni Newman, editor-in-chief at Cars.com, noted its rugged styling and three-row versatility as added bonuses. It’s offered in SEL, Limited, and Calligraphy trims with front- or all-wheel-drive options.
Hyundai’s hybrid success extends beyond awards. In April 2025, sales of its hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) rose by 46 percent, driven by record performances from the Santa Fe HEV, Tucson PHEV, and Tucson HEV. This milestone reflects growing consumer demand for Hyundai’s efficient, affordable hybrids, solidifying its leadership in sustainable transportation.
