Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), in partnership with Glovis America, has launched Hyundai XCIENT hydrogen fuel-cell heavy-duty trucks for sustainable logistics. A total of 21 XCIENT trucks are initially being deployed to support clean and efficient transportation.
Key Highlights:
- 21 XCIENT hydrogen trucks will be utilized for logistics at HMGMA.
- Trucks will transport vehicle parts from regional suppliers to the Megasite daily.
- Represents one-third of Glovis America’s fleet at HMGMA.
- Mobile hydrogen refueling station planned for efficient operations.
- Part of Hyundai’s HTWO hydrogen initiative promoting sustainability.
The deployment of the Hyundai XCIENT trucks represents a significant advancement in HMGMA’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions and lead sustainable practices in logistics. This initiative is designed to showcase Hyundai Motor Group’s commitment to environmental stewardship through innovative hydrogen fuel cell technology, providing a cleaner alternative to traditional freight methods.
These Class 8 heavy-duty trucks will transport vehicle parts between HMGMA suppliers and the Megasite. The initial rollout focuses on transporting parts to the on-site Consolidation Center, with plans to expand to a broader supplier network over time. This use of zero-emissions hydrogen fuel-cell technology not only highlights the Group’s sustainability commitment but also underscores their leadership in clean transportation solutions.
Earlier this year, Hyundai announced HTWO, a new hydrogen value chain brand that aims to integrate the Group’s hydrogen-related businesses—from production and storage to transportation and utilization. HTWO stands for ‘Hydrogen’ and ‘Humanity,’ aligning with Hyundai’s broader goals of supporting environmental sustainability and improving manufacturing logistics through innovative solutions.
“HMGMA’s deployment of XCIENT for logistics and operations is one of the main initiatives of HTWO,” said Jim Park, Senior Vice President of commercial vehicle and hydrogen business development at Hyundai Motor North America. “This is delivering on our strategy and vision to showcase a closed-loop hydrogen logistics ecosystem and improve the environmental sustainability of manufacturing operations.”
In addition, HTWO Logistics, a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Company and Glovis America, plans to install a mobile hydrogen refueling station at the Megasite, ensuring smooth and efficient refueling operations. The development of a permanent hydrogen production and refueling station for the site is also underway, with further details to be announced soon.
