Hyundai North America premiered the IONIQ 6 N at AutoMobility LA, expanding its high-performance electric vehicle lineup. Following the IONIQ 5 N, this sedan integrates motorsport-derived engineering with the E-GMP platform to deliver track-capable performance. The vehicle features a dual-motor powertrain, reinforced chassis geometry, and proprietary software designed for thermal management and driver engagement. The IONIQ 6 N is scheduled for limited release in the U.S. market in 2026.
Highlights
- Output: Dual-motor system generates up to 641 HP (478 kW) and 568 lb.-ft. of torque with N Grin Boost engaged.
- Acceleration: Achieves 0-60 mph in approximately 3.2 seconds using N Launch Control.
- Battery Architecture: Equipped with an 84.0 kWh battery supporting 800V charging (10–80% in 18 minutes).
- Aerodynamics: Features a drag coefficient of 0.27 Cd with a motorsport-inspired swan-neck rear wing.
Powertrain and Thermal Management
The IONIQ 6 N utilizes a high-output dual-motor architecture. The front motor delivers 223 HP (166 kW), while the rear motor serves as the primary drive unit with 378 HP (282 kW). Total system output is rated at 601 HP (448 kW), which increases to 641 HP (478 kW) for 10-second intervals via the N Grin Boost function. This powertrain enables a top speed of approximately 160 mph.
To sustain performance during high-load scenarios, Hyundai utilizes an 84.0 kWh N Battery system with advanced thermal management. The system includes battery preconditioning software with specific modes for Drag, Sprint, and Endurance driving. An enhanced coolant heater and optimized thermal controls reduce conditioning times. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) supports a 400V–800V multi-charging architecture, allowing for rapid energy recovery at 350 kW DC fast charging stations.

Chassis Engineering and Aerodynamics
The chassis incorporates significant structural reinforcements to handle increased torsional loads. Updates include additional weld points, structural adhesives, and a stiffer rear anti-roll bar. The suspension geometry features a fully redesigned setup with stroke-sensing Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) dampers and a lowered roll center to improve mechanical grip.
- Braking: The system utilizes four-piston calipers with 15.7-inch rotors at the front and single-piston calipers with 14.2-inch rotors at the rear.
- Regeneration: The N Brake Regen system provides up to 0.6 G of decelerative force, reducing thermal stress on the friction brakes.
- Tires: The vehicle is fitted with 275/35R20 Pirelli P-Zero 5 tires, explicitly developed for the IONIQ 6 N.
Aerodynamic efficiency is critical to the vehicle’s performance profile. Despite the addition of widened fenders and a high-downforce swan-neck rear wing, the IONIQ 6 N maintains a drag coefficient of 0.27 Cd.
Software and Vehicle Control
Hyundai has integrated proprietary software to modulate the electric powertrain’s delivery and feedback.
- N e-Shift: Simulates the shift points and torque interruption of a dual-clutch transmission, utilizing virtual gear ratios for driver feedback.
- N Active Sound+: Uses a performance-enhanced Acoustic Design Processor to generate internal and external sound profiles, including ‘Ignition’ (ICE simulation) and ‘Evolution’ (ETCR-inspired).
- N Drift Optimizer: Allows drivers to customize drift initiation angles and wheel spin parameters.
- N Torque Distribution: Offers fully variable front/rear torque splitting across 11 selectable levels.
- N Track Manager: A data logging system that provides real-time performance analysis and ghost-car visualization.

Design and Availability
The exterior is distinguished by the N-exclusive Performance Blue Pearl paint, aggressive front fascia, and functional aerodynamic elements. The interior features bucket seats with Alcantara suede inserts, an N-specific steering wheel with dedicated mode buttons, and a fixed center console optimized for driver bracing.
The IONIQ 6 N will be available in limited quantities in the U.S. starting in 2026. Pricing and final EPA-estimated range figures will be confirmed closer to the media launch.
