Hyundai Reinforces Hydrogen Strategy with NEXO Launch

Hyundai Motor showcased the all-new NEXO and INSTEROID concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, reaffirming its leadership in hydrogen innovation and expanding its electrified presence in the Japanese market.

Hyundai Motor Company reinforced its hydrogen and electrification strategy at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 with the debut of the all-new NEXO fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) and the futuristic INSTEROID concept car. The showcase marks Hyundai’s largest public activation in Japan to date, underscoring its commitment to sustainable mobility and deeper engagement with eco-conscious consumers.

All-New NEXO: Advancing Hydrogen Innovation

The second-generation NEXO represents Hyundai’s most advanced hydrogen vehicle to date. With zero emissions and the ability to purify air by filtering fine dust during operation, the model combines sustainability with high performance. Its enhanced fuel cell stack and improved battery enable a driving range exceeding 826 kilometers (WLTP) on a full five-minute charge.

Safety and comfort remain central to the NEXO’s design, with the inclusion of Highway Driving Assist, Surround View Monitoring, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and comprehensive airbag protection. Inside, drivers experience a Bang & Olufsen sound system, ventilated seats, and eco-friendly materials crafted for sustainable luxury.

Hydrogen Journey Zone: Showcasing Hyundai’s Hydrogen Ecosystem

Hyundai’s Hydrogen Journey Zone demonstrates the company’s end-to-end hydrogen value chain — from production and storage to mobility applications through its HTWO brand. Visitors explored the evolution of Hyundai’s FCEV technology, including major milestones and technical advancements that culminated in the all-new NEXO.

Expanding the Electrified Portfolio

Beyond hydrogen, Hyundai featured its IONIQ 5, INSTER Cross, and the INSTEROID concept. The EV Life Zone allowed visitors to experience Hyundai’s E-GMP platform and next-generation charging infrastructure, while the EV Imagination Zone presented INSTEROID — a gaming-inspired concept embodying Hyundai’s design and digital innovation vision.

The brand also displayed its Elec City Town bus and INSTER EV within the Working Mobility Zone, reflecting Hyundai’s holistic approach to clean transportation — spanning personal mobility, public transit, and commercial applications.

Hyundai’s Vision for Japan

According to Yoo Seok Chung, Executive Vice President at Hyundai Motor Company, the automaker will introduce the all-new NEXO in Japan in 2026. “As a global top-three automotive brand, Hyundai Motor is dedicated to bringing high-quality, customer-centric products that reflect our electrification and hydrogen leadership,” he said.

Through initiatives such as Hyundai Motor Club Japan, the company aims to strengthen its community engagement and promote cross-cultural collaboration between Korean and Japanese customers, reinforcing Hyundai’s brand authenticity in the region.
