Hyundai Teases New Compact EV Concept

Hyundai Motor Company reveals its new compact EV, Concept THREE, with a teaser image. The vehicle introduces the Aero Hatch design and will debut at IAA Mobility 2025.

Hyundai Motor Company has officially announced its first-ever compact EV concept under the IONIQ sub-brand, the Concept THREE. The company released a new teaser image, offering a glimpse into the future of electric mobility ahead of the vehicle’s formal debut. This announcement builds anticipation for what the company describes as a reimagining of the compact EV segment.

Key Highlights

  • Hyundai has officially confirmed the name of its new compact EV concept as Concept THREE.
  • The global premiere is scheduled for IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, Germany, from September 9 to 14.
  • The design introduces a new body style, the Aero Hatch, shaped by Hyundai’s Art of Steel design language.
  • This marks Hyundai Motor’s return to the major European mobility showcase after a four-year absence.

A New Design Language

The latest teaser image of Concept THREE showcases a dynamic and future-forward design. Its side profile reveals a bold stance, defined by Hyundai’s unique design language, Art of Steel. This philosophy is inspired by the way steel bends and flows, resulting in a body with sculpted surfaces, clean lines, and distinctive character lines that emphasize both motion and precision.

This expressive design also introduces the Aero Hatch, a new typology that redefines the traditional compact EV silhouette. According to Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center, the design team aimed to craft a silhouette that “captures a sense of flow and becomes a beautifully proportioned sculpture.” The goal was to rethink the compact EV from the ground up.

Manuel Schoettle, an exterior designer for Concept THREE, added that the treatment of the steel feels authentic and natural. “It just felt natural, making the Concept THREE extremely pure, and hopefully it will bring a smile to your face,” Schoettle stated.

Global Debut at IAA Mobility 2025

Concept THREE is set for its worldwide debut at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. The event, held from September 9 to 14, is one of Europe’s largest mobility showcases. Hyundai Motor’s participation reaffirms its dedication to the European market and its leadership in sustainable innovation.

Attendees at the IAA Open Space will get an in-depth look at Concept THREE and its role in setting new standards for the compact EV segment. Further details and specifications are expected to be revealed during Hyundai Motor’s official press conference on September 9.
