Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 Wins Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year Award for 2023

Toronto, Ont. – Hyundai Auto Canada’s IONIQ 5 has been named the 2023 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC), according to a company press release. This is the second year in a row that Hyundai has won the award, with the Tucson winning the same accolade for 2022.

The IONIQ 5 has received numerous international awards, including World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year, and World Car Design of the Year. In Canada, AJAC also recognized the IONIQ 5 as the “Best Electric Vehicle for 2023,” and it received Canadian Black Book’s inaugural Best Residual Value Award in the EV SUV Below $45,000 category.

Hyundai Auto Canada’s President, Don Romano, said, “IONIQ 5 continues to win awards around the world, and we’re honored to receive this top accolade from our automotive experts here in Canada. Over 5,500 people in Canada own an IONIQ 5 in appreciation for its retro design; ultra-fast charging; spacious interior and competitive range, and we’re excited to share this award with them, and our network of committed dealers across Canada.”

The award for Canadian Car of the Year (CCOTY) was determined after 49 AJAC CCOTY judges evaluated the vehicles in real-world conditions on Canadian roads. KPMG verified the voting results. AJAC’s top awards are presented to the best vehicles in each category, including luxury segments.

AJAC President Michel Crépault stated, “In producing these results, our journalist members demonstrated fierce dedication to their craft and informing Canadian drivers of the vehicles worthy of their purchase consideration in 2023.”

The IONIQ 5 is a new standard for Hyundai electric vehicles, with a driving range of up to 488 kilometers and a best-in-class charging system that can gain 285 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes. The new E-GMP platform enhances performance, driving dynamics and optimizes interior volume and was the first model in Hyundai’s new family of IONIQ electric vehicles.
