MG Launches Seven-Seat MGS9 Plug-In Hybrid SUV

MG enters the seven-seat PHEV SUV market with the MGS9, combining 62 miles of electric range, 299 PS, and UK pricing from £34,205.

MG has entered the large SUV segment with the MGS9 PHEV, the brand’s first seven-seat model. The plug-in hybrid pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine with a 24.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. UK pricing starts at £34,205 (approximately $45,500 USD) for the Comfort trim.

Highlights

  • First seven-seat MG: The MGS9 PHEV measures 4.98 meters long and offers 1,026 liters of boot space in five-seat configuration
  • 62-mile electric range: A 24.7 kWh LFP battery delivers up to 62 miles of EV-only driving (WLTP combined) and up to 104 miles in city driving
  • 299 PS combined output: The hybrid powertrain produces 390 Nm of torque, reaches 62 mph in 9.6 seconds, and achieves 18 g/km CO2 (weighted combined)
  • Two trim levels: Comfort at £34,205 (~$45,500 USD) and Premium at £36,945 (~$49,150 USD), both with 20-inch alloy wheels, panoramic roof, and V2L capability

Powertrain and Charging

The MGS9 PHEV uses a plug-in hybrid system shared with the MG HS PHEV. The 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder produces 142 PS on its own, while the electric motor adds 231 PS. Combined output reaches 299 PS (220 kW) and 390 Nm of torque through a single-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.

The 24.7 kWh battery (23.2 kWh usable) connects via a Type 2 port and supports an 11 kW onboard AC charger. A full charge takes roughly four hours on a 7 kW home wallbox. A 65-liter fuel tank supports longer trips.

Weighted combined CO2 emissions sit at 18 g/km, making it eligible for favorable benefit-in-kind tax rates for UK company car drivers.

Interior and Versatility

At nearly five meters long and 1.96 meters wide, the MGS9 PHEV seats seven across three rows. The third row folds individually, and the second row splits 60:40. With the third row stowed, boot capacity reaches 1,026 liters.

The cabin features dual 12.3-inch displays — one for the driver and one for the infotainment system — along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Both trims include tri-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and five USB ports spread across all three rows.

Comfort vs. Premium Trim

The Comfort model includes cloth upholstery, heated front seats, an 8-way electric driver seat, an 8-speaker audio system, and a powered tailgate.

The Premium adds for £2,740 more:

  • Leather-style upholstery with ventilated and massaging front seats
  • 12-speaker Bose audio system
  • 4-way electric driver lumbar support
  • Smart tailgate with sensor activation
  • Wireless phone charger and auto-dimming rear-view mirror
  • Front fog lights and door mirrors with tilt-down memory

An optional beige dual-tone interior with wood-effect trim is available at no extra cost on Premium models.

Safety and ADAS

The MGS9 PHEV holds a five-star Euro NCAP rating. MG lists up to 16 advanced driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, active emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, traffic jam assist, and a driver monitoring system.

The MG Pilot Custom function lets drivers save preferred ADAS configurations as presets.
