Hyzon Begins Production of 200kW Fuel Cell Truck

Hyzon, a U.S.-based leader in hydrogen fuel cell technology, has announced the start of production for its Class 8 200kW Fuel Cell Electric Truck (FCET). This milestone marks a significant step toward decarbonizing the heavy-duty transportation industry by offering a zero-emission alternative to diesel. Through a collaboration with Fontaine Modification in North Carolina, Hyzon will produce its high-performance fuel cell trucks, aiming to provide fleet operators with powerful, reliable, and environmentally friendly solutions.

Key Highlights:

  • Start of Production: Hyzon begins production of its Class 8 200kW FCET, transitioning from prototype to series production.
  • Innovative Technology: The 200kW fuel cell system is 30% lighter, smaller, and 25% more cost-efficient than older systems.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Fontaine Modification handles vehicle assembly in North Carolina using kits provided by Hyzon.
  • ISO 9001 Certification: Hyzon expects to achieve the ISO 9001 quality management certification by Q4 2024.

Parker Meeks, Hyzon’s CEO, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, “Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for ‘hard-to-decarbonize’ heavy-duty industries, as Hyzon sets the standard for high-performance, zero-emission alternatives to diesel.”

The truck’s innovative 200kW fuel cell system, built in Hyzon’s Bolingbrook, Illinois facility, will be the first single-stack 200kW fuel system to enter series production in the United States. This cutting-edge design is not only more compact and efficient but also sets new industry standards in power density and cost-effectiveness.

Hyzon has partnered with Fontaine Modification for vehicle assembly in Charlotte, North Carolina. Fontaine will integrate Hyzon’s fuel cell system, battery packs, and hydrogen storage systems into the vehicle chassis, ensuring that the trucks are fully road-ready.

Looking ahead, Hyzon anticipates achieving ISO 9001 certification by the end of 2024, further reinforcing its commitment to quality and innovation.

By focusing on zero-emission solutions, Hyzon is positioning itself at the forefront of a hydrogen-powered industrial revolution, helping to accelerate the transition to clean energy across demanding industries.
