Ideanomics Forms Strategic Partnership with MAHLE to Offer Fleet Charging Solutions in North America

NEW YORK – Ideanomics, a company specializing in the commercialization of electric vehicles (EVs), has announced a strategic partnership with German firm MAHLE. Ideanomics will become the development partner and exclusive North American distributor for MAHLE’s chargeBIG 18-36 AC fleet charging solution.

Jan Freimann, Senior Vice President for Ideanomics Energy, stated that the chargeBIG 18-36 AC product is a scalable and cost-efficient charging solution for a range of indoor and outdoor applications. The product features a load management software and modular architecture, which can charge up to 36 vehicles from a single system the size of a refrigerator.

Under the agreement, Ideanomics has the exclusive right to distribute the chargeBIG 18-36 AC charging system in North America for five years, under the Ideanomics Energy brand. The system is designed to meet the regulatory requirements for charging infrastructure in California, and Ideanomics and MAHLE will optimize the system for North American commercial fleets, including UL certification.

The chargeBIG 18-36 AC system has already been implemented in Europe, with over 1,500 charging points supplied to more than 20 customers. It is being used to power electric passenger vehicles in residential and business parking garages, and a growing number of commercial fleet operators are choosing chargeBIG for their light and medium-duty EV fleets.

The system’s centralized control unit is easy to install and provides dynamic load management for up to 36 charging points with 7 kW, 11 kW, or 19 kW charging power. This allows for efficient charging of multiple EVs and can charge twice as many vehicles compared to competitors.

Ideanomics Energy has recently acquired VIA Motors and aims to become the preferred charging solutions provider for VIA’s electric work trucks. The two companies plan to offer a cost-efficient, integrated EV and charging solution for commercial fleets. Ideanomics Energy provides turnkey commercial electrification solutions, including financing, through its three verticals.
