INEOS Inovyn has initiated customer trials with Daimler Truck AG, utilizing Europe’s first heavy-duty liquid hydrogen truck. This trial involves a Mercedes-Benz GenH2 truck and aims to supply PVC customers with approximately 250 deliveries over the next 12 months.

Key Highlights:

  • INEOS Inovyn is Europe’s leading PVC producer and largest industrial electrolysis operator.
  • The trial will advance the development of hydrogen for heavy-duty transport, promoting a zero-emission future.
  • Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Trucks have a range of over 1000 km and can carry the same payload as conventional diesel vehicles.
  • The trial involves partners such as Amazon, Air Products, Holcim, and Wiedmann & Winz.
  • Wouter Bleukx, Business Director Hydrogen at INEOS Inovyn, emphasizes hydrogen’s transformative potential for truck transportation.

INEOS Inovyn is leading the way in renewable hydrogen production and its application in heavy-duty transport. By collaborating with Daimler Truck AG, INEOS Inovyn is set to make around 250 customer deliveries in the Rheinberg area over the next year, with plans to expand to Belgium and the Netherlands.

Wouter Bleukx stated, “Hydrogen is a game-changing energy solution that will transform truck transportation and help us achieve a zero-emission future. As both a major producer and consumer of low-carbon hydrogen, INEOS is in a unique position to help drive this change. We are delighted to be working with Daimler Truck.”

The Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Trucks are the first heavy-duty liquid hydrogen trucks in Europe, boasting a range of more than 1000 km and the capability to carry the same payload as traditional diesel vehicles. This trial represents a significant step towards understanding fuel-cell technology in real-world operations.

Wouter Bleukx added, “INEOS is committed to reaching Net Zero and Daimler’s pioneering trial is an exciting opportunity to help accelerate this transition. We transport nearly 3 million tonnes of PVC annually and continually look at ways to reduce our CO2 footprint.”

INEOS continues to invest in hydrogen production and storage, underscoring its belief that hydrogen innovations are key to a cleaner energy ecosystem. With over 125 years of experience in electrolysis, INEOS is a leading force in bringing low-carbon hydrogen solutions to market. However, significant support from governments is essential to foster infrastructure investment and business confidence.

This trial also offers INEOS Inovyn’s PVC customers a chance to reduce Scope 3 emissions and enhance their green credentials.
