- Global Expansion Plans: Solution set to roll out in the UK, US, and EU, enabling widespread EV charging optimization.
- Environmental and Cost Benefits: In the UK, ev.energy’s smart charging saved drivers an average of £166 and cut 489 tonnes of CO2e, equivalent to the energy use of 1,449 homes for a year.
- California Insights: Smart charging doubled overnight charging volumes and shifted up to 45% of daytime charging to off-peak times with abundant solar energy.
- Investment Milestone: JLR, via InMotion Ventures, invested in ev.energy’s $33M Series B funding round, marking it as the first automaker to back the company.
Enhancing Grid Stability and Sustainability
The collaboration between JLR and ev.energy focuses on creating a high-quality integration that allows utilities to scale smart EV charging programs and tap into energy flexibility. By automating charging based on driver preferences, utility rates, and grid conditions, the system makes EV ownership more sustainable and affordable for JLR’s luxury clients.
ev.energy’s platform has already partnered with over 55 utilities, proving the value of managed charging. These efforts support grid stability by shifting charging to times when renewable energy is plentiful, reducing overall carbon emissions and operational costs.
Expanding the Virtual Power Plant
This partnership will grow ev.energy’s global Virtual Power Plant (VPP), giving utilities better access to demand-side flexibility, demand response, and dynamic load management. The deep vehicle-grid integration developed by ev.energy and JLR sets the stage for a cleaner, more resilient energy system.
Nick Woolley, CEO and Co-Founder of ev.energy, highlighted the initiative as a model for automaker-software provider collaboration. It delivers convenient, high-quality solutions that boost EV adoption, ease grid pressures, and make charging cost-effective. Insights from the UK pilot will inform applications in other markets with growing EV demand and low-carbon supplies.
Swarna Ramanathan, JLR Chief Strategy Officer, emphasized the power of such collaborations in tackling industry challenges. The smart charging solution meets luxury clients’ expectations, supports electrification, efficiently uses energy, reduces grid pressure, and lowers user costs.
Commitment to Innovation
JLR’s investment through InMotion Ventures underscores its dedication to innovative grid-aware EV charging. As part of JLR’s Reimagine strategy, the company aims for carbon net zero by 2039, with electrification at its core. By the end of the decade, pure electric models will be available across Range Rover, Discovery, Defender, and Jaguar lines.
ev.energy connects users to greener, cheaper, simpler EV charging, managing over 220,000 EVs worldwide. Its platform turns EVs into flexible grid assets, benefiting energy providers, consumers, and the environment.
