Kia America Records Historic First-Half EV Sales

Kia America achieved its highest first-half EV sales in company history, along with the second-best overall first-half sales. The brand’s leading models for the first half of 2024 were the Sportage SUV and Forte sedan.

Key Highlights

  • Record EV Sales: Kia America sold over 5,000 all-electric vehicles for the third consecutive month, totaling 29,392 EVs in the first half of the year. This marks a 112% growth year-over-year.
  • Best-Selling Models: Four models set new first-half sales records:
    • Carnival: +18%
    • Forte: +13%
    • Sportage: +11%
    • Seltos: +1%
  • Sustainable Mobility: Kia’s hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric vehicles form one of the most balanced lineups in the industry.
  • Upcoming Models: The first-ever hybrid Carnival MPV and the updated K5 sedan are expected to drive further growth.

Eric Watson, vice president of sales operations at Kia America, highlighted the brand’s leadership in sustainable mobility solutions. “Kia’s leadership as a sustainable mobility solutions provider and our growing selection of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric utility vehicles are delivering one of the most balanced lineups in the industry,” Watson said. He also mentioned the anticipated increase in consumer demand and showroom traffic for the second half of the year.

Recent Initiatives

  • Electrify Expo Long Beach: Kia showcased its all-electric EV6 and EV9 models, offering attendees a ride-and-drive experience.
  • IONNA Headquarters: Durham, North Carolina, was chosen as the headquarters for IONNA, a charging network coalition including Kia, BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis.
