In-House Platform Development

The Grayback EVP is the result of a five-year, multimillion-dollar development program conducted entirely in-house by Kindred’s engineering team. The platform is named after the USS Grayback (SSG-574), a US Navy submarine built at Mare Island, where Kindred Motorworks is headquartered.

This advanced system allows Kindred to integrate sophisticated electric powertrains into virtually any vintage car or truck. By combining select off-the-shelf components with proprietary controls and new Kindred Motorworks parts, the Grayback EVP manages all critical functions, including heating, cooling, battery management, vehicle controls, power distribution, and charging.

Grayback EVP System Features

At the core of the Grayback EVP is a modular battery design built around a high-energy-density battery module. This design provides the necessary flexibility to adapt the system to the unique packaging constraints of different classic vehicles. It supports multiple motor configurations, allowing for an ideal powertrain match for any conversion, from all-wheel-drive capability to high-performance road driving.

A dedicated thermal management system optimizes the operating temperatures for the high-voltage battery, motor, and inverters. This ensures peak performance and component longevity while also providing efficient cabin heating and air conditioning.

Performance and Charging

Kindred Motorworks EVs equipped with the Grayback EVP are designed for reliable, maintenance-free operation, delivering 200 miles of driving range and up to 600 horsepower. The system was developed with serviceability in mind and can be upgraded over time, giving customers the ability to benefit from emerging battery technologies.

The integrated charging system supports convenient at-home charging as well as CCS DC fast charging. Intelligent monitoring of battery and environmental conditions ensures the fastest possible charging experience in either scenario.
