London EV Company (LEVC) will launch its next-generation black cab in the UK market in the second half of 2027, replacing the TX range-extended electric taxi that has sold more than 12,000 units worldwide since 2018. The company reports the new model is being engineered from the ground up to meet Transport for London’s Metropolitan Conditions of Fitness, and it released a first set of design sketches alongside the next-generation black cab confirmation. Final assembly of the current TX concludes in September 2026 as the Ansty plant prepares for the new program.

What Replaces the LEVC TX?
The new vehicle takes over from the TX, the purpose-built, zero-exhaust-emission-capable black cab LEVC introduced in 2018. The company describes the sketches as a clear evolution of the vehicle’s recognizable silhouette, with updates to design, technology, and usability.
Full technical details and specifications remain under wraps. LEVC says the next-generation taxi will draw on its experience in purpose-built taxi design, accessibility, and durability, and that it is developing the model around the needs of drivers, passengers, fleet operators, and cities. Further details on technology, capability, manufacturing, and exact launch timing will be announced later.
TX Emissions Performance
According to LEVC, the TX’s eCity powertrain has prevented more than 450 million kg (roughly 496,000 tons) of CO2 from entering the atmosphere and reduced NOx emissions from the London taxi fleet by 60%. The company says environmental sustainability and air quality remain key considerations in developing the next-generation taxi.
LEVC’s CO2 figure is based on its own calculations covering 2018 through July 2026, an assumed average of 25,000 miles per vehicle per year, 12,216 black cabs sold globally, and a direct comparison of NEDC-certified exhaust emissions between 12,216 TX taxis and the same number of TX4 Euro 6 diesel taxis.
Geely Investment and Program Backing
Since 2013, Geely Group has invested more than £1 billion (approximately $1.35 billion) in LEVC’s ongoing development, and the company says its parent remains committed to the UK taxi industry. LEVC describes the program plan as underpinned by a stable regulatory environment that recognizes the role and characteristics of the licensed London taxi. The next-generation product will combine LEVC’s taxi expertise with Geely’s global engineering capability, building on partnerships developed over the past decade.

TX Production Ends as Ansty Prepares for the New Model
As part of the planned transition, final assembly of the TX concludes in September 2026, allowing LEVC’s Ansty production facility to prepare for the new purpose-built taxi. Production of the new vehicle begins in 2027.
LEVC says its established aftermarket and aftersales operations will continue to provide service, parts, and technical support for the current TX. The company will keep working with drivers, partners, and industry stakeholders to ensure the next-generation taxi meets the requirements of professional urban transport.
