Lotus' Emeya has set a new electric vehicle lap record at Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit, posting a 2:20.317 lap time that beats the previous EV benchmark by more than seven seconds.

Lotus Technology’s Emeya has set a new electric vehicle lap record at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, posting a time of 2 minutes, 20.317 seconds around the circuit’s 3.4-mile (5.5-km) layout. The record-setting lap, driven by champion GT driver Daniel Lu, beats the fastest publicly reported EV lap previously recorded at Sepang — 2:27.790 — by more than seven seconds, according to Lotus Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: LOT). The run was completed by the Emeya R+ derivative, now known as the Emeya 900. The result adds to Lotus’ effort to show that its electric lineup can pair everyday usability with genuine track performance.

Sepang’s Layout Tests Power, Braking and Chassis Balance

Sepang’s 3.4-mile (5.5-km) circuit combines long high-speed straights with a technical mix of fast and slow corners, placing equal demands on power delivery, braking performance, aerodynamic stability and chassis balance, according to Lotus. The company describes the layout as one of Asia’s most demanding tracks, and the record lap illustrates how the Emeya balanced outright speed with the circuit’s slower technical sections.

Porosity Aerodynamics Trace Back to the Evija

A signature element of the Emeya’s design is “porosity” — the aerodynamic principle of directing air through the vehicle as well as under, over and around it. Lotus says the concept, first developed for its all-electric Evija hypercar, remains integral to the Emira and provided inspiration for the Emeya, contributing to the car’s performance at Sepang.
