Lotus Expands European EV Charging Access

Lotus has embarked on a significant venture to enhance electric vehicle (EV) charging capabilities for its customers, announcing two major partnerships across Europe. This initiative marks a substantial leap in making EV ownership more convenient and accessible.

Lotus owners across Europe now enjoy expanded charging options thanks to collaborations with Bosch and Mobilize. These partnerships facilitate charging both on the road and at home, significantly benefiting those driving Lotus’s electric vehicles, including the Eletre hyper-SUV and the upcoming Emeya hyper-GT.

Key to this expansion is access to over 600,000 public charging stations in 30 European countries, including the UK, Germany, and France. Lotus’s commitment to growing its charging network is evident, with plans to incorporate more operators over time.

Owners can utilize the Lotus Charging Card for easy network access and manage their charging needs through the Lotus Cars smartphone app. This app provides valuable insights into charging history, cost management, and remote battery status monitoring.

Mike Johnstone, Chief Commercial Officer at Lotus Group, emphasized the importance of this development. “Lack of charging infrastructure continues to be a significant barrier to EV adoption. We need to make owning an electric vehicle easier to accelerate the transition to electrification, and industry collaboration is crucial in this,” he stated.

Remarkably, Lotus’s electric vehicles offer exceptionally quick charge times. With a 350kW DC fast-charger, the Eletre and Emeya can gain up to 74 miles of range in about five minutes, with a 10-80% battery boost achievable in under 20 minutes.

An innovative aspect of these vehicles is the Lotus HyperOS system. This award-winning in-car infotainment system aids in locating public chargers, reducing range anxiety, and suggesting efficient routes based on real-time battery usage.

In partnership with Mobilize Power Solutions, Lotus is also focusing on home charging. They offer an all-inclusive package for home charging point installation, starting at £1,199 (€2,155 VAT inclusive), which includes a tethered cable and compatibility with domestic solar arrays.

Olivia Arago from Bosch Electrified Motion and Nicolas Schottey of Mobilize Power Solutions both expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the importance of accessible public charging and the convenience of home charging solutions.

In addition to these partnerships, Lotus has recently launched its own EV charging solutions, including an ultra-fast 450kW DC charger. These developments are part of Lotus’s Vision80 strategy, aiming to transform into a global luxury technology brand by 2028.

As Lotus continues its journey, delivering the Eletre to customers and preparing for the Emeya’s arrival in H2 2024, these partnerships and innovations in charging infrastructure are pivotal in advancing the company’s vision and facilitating the wider adoption of EVs.
