Lucid Acquires Nikola Assets in Arizona

Lucid Group, Inc., a prominent electric vehicle manufacturer, has entered into an agreement to purchase specific facilities and assets in Arizona previously owned by Nikola Corporation. This acquisition, which awaits approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, aims to enhance Lucid’s manufacturing and development capabilities in the region. Significantly, Lucid will not take over Nikola’s business operations, customer base, or hydrogen fuel cell truck technology. In addition, the company plans to extend job offers to more than 300 former Nikola employees, demonstrating a commitment to supporting the local Arizona community.

Key Highlights:

  • Lucid will acquire Nikola’s former manufacturing facility in Coolidge and headquarters in Phoenix, expanding its Arizona operations by over 884,000 square feet.
  • The deal includes advanced manufacturing and testing equipment but excludes Nikola’s core business and hydrogen fuel cell technology.
  • Over 300 former Nikola employees will receive job offers in roles such as manufacturing engineering and vehicle testing.
  • This acquisition supports production scaling for the Lucid Gravity and future midsize platform vehicles.
  • Arizona leaders, including Governor Katie Hobbs and Senator T.J. Shope, commend the move for boosting the state’s EV industry and workforce.

The acquired properties include Nikola’s former manufacturing facility at 680 E Houser Rd, Coolidge, AZ, and a Phoenix site at 4141 E Broadway Rd, Phoenix, AZ, previously its headquarters and development hub. These facilities add more than 884,000 square feet of cutting-edge manufacturing and warehousing space to Lucid’s portfolio, along with sophisticated equipment like battery testing chambers, a chassis dynamometer, and machining tools. This expansion aligns with Lucid’s prior plans to grow its Arizona presence.

Lucid’s initiative to hire over 300 former Nikola workers spans technical and hourly roles, including software development, assembly, and warehouse support. This move not only strengthens Lucid’s team with experienced EV professionals but also aids the local economy following Nikola’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and auction, concluded on April 10, 2025.

Strategically, the acquisition bolsters Lucid’s capacity to ramp up production of the Lucid Gravity and prepare for midsize platform vehicles. Marc Winterhoff, Lucid’s Interim CEO, stated, “Acquiring these assets is an opportunity to strategically expand our manufacturing, warehousing, testing, and development facilities while supporting our local Arizona community.”

Governor Katie Hobbs praised the deal, saying, “This acquisition promises to strengthen Lucid’s operations while offering continued employment to hundreds of skilled workers in our state.” Similarly, Senator T.J. Shope noted, “This investment will be instrumental in helping those impacted by job loss to regain employment by Lucid.”
