Lucid Air Recall for Suspension Issue

NEWARK, Calif. – Lucid Motors, Inc., a premium electric vehicle company, has agreed to recall certain model-year 2022 Air sedans due to a potentially defective suspension component which could lead to a brake issue.

The 203 vehicles affected by the recall might suffer from an incorrectly installed lower snap ring which, if it fails, could result in sudden loss of ride height, damping force and possible damage to the front brake lines.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration )NHTSA) Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-090, the safety risk is “Possible loss of vehicle control and possible diminished braking authority, leading to increased likelihood of an accident.”

Failure of the snap ring and subsequent issues might come without any driver warning but would receive one if brake fluid leaked.

“If the failure resulted in a brake hose leak, the driver would not receive any immediate warning. If the brake fluid level fell below 81.9 percent of the minimum recommended reservoir brake fluid volume, the driver would receive a warning message stating “Brake Fluid Level Low. Refill Required, Contact Service Center,” with an accompanying audible warning,” according to NHTSA.

The remedy begins with an inspection of the front suspension by a Lucid technician. Should the inspection reveal in incorrect snap-ring installation, Lucid will replace the damper assembly at no charge to the vehicle owner.

Lucid service centers were scheduled to be notified beginning Feb. 16, with owners scheduled to receive first-class-mail notifications beginning Feb. 24.
