VinFast Targets Profitability Through AI Manufacturing and EV Lineup Expansion

VinFast is pursuing profitability through AI-driven manufacturing, a three-brand EV portfolio, and next-generation vehicle platforms designed to reduce costs and improve scalability.

VinFast is refining its strategy around cost reduction, smart manufacturing, and a three-brand EV portfolio as it pushes toward profitability. During the company’s recent earnings call, Chairwoman Thuy Le outlined plans to lower unit costs through automation, next-generation vehicle platforms, and AI integration across factories and vehicles.

Highlights

  • VinFast is partnering with VinRobotics to deploy industrial humanoid robots and AI-enabled automation across its assembly operations.
  • Next-generation VF 6 and VF 7 models are scheduled for production in H2 2026. They feature reduced component counts and simplified electrical architecture to lower bill-of-materials costs.
  • The company has structured its portfolio into three brands: VF (mass market), Green (commercial fleets), and Lac Hong (ultra-luxury).
  • VinFast is advancing its ADAS roadmap from Level 2+ toward Level 4 autonomy, including a manufacturing partnership with AI company Tensor for a robocar program.

Smart Manufacturing and VinRobotics Partnership

VinFast is working with VinRobotics, an affiliate within the Vingroup ecosystem, to integrate intelligent robotics and physical AI into its production lines. VinRobotics specializes in industrial humanoid robots and AI-enabled automation systems designed for complex factory environments.

The partnership is expected to improve automation rates across assembly operations. It should also boost quality consistency through real-time monitoring. Additionally, VinFast aims to achieve structural cost reductions as production volumes scale — a critical factor for competing in the price-sensitive U.S. EV market.

Three-Brand Portfolio Strategy

VinFast has completed the rollout of a tiered brand structure targeting distinct market segments.

  • VF: The primary consumer brand for U.S. and global markets. The lineup spans from the compact VF 3 to the full-size VF 9, including the seven-seat VF MPV 7. It emphasizes accessible pricing and aftersales support.
  • Green: A fleet-focused brand offering purpose-built EVs for logistics and ride-hailing, including the Limo Green, Herio Green, Nerio Green, and Minio Green models.
  • Lac Hong: An ultra-luxury brand rooted in Vietnamese design and craftsmanship. Following the Lac Hong 900 LX introduction in 2025, two new models — the 800S and 900S — were unveiled in March 2026 with expected 2027 launches.

This tiered approach allows VinFast to address multiple customer segments. It also maintains brand differentiation across price points.

Next-Generation Vehicle Architecture

The upcoming VF 6 and VF 7 iterations represent a key element of VinFast’s cost strategy. These models are built on a new vehicle platform with reduced component counts and simplified system architecture.

They also feature next-generation electrical and electronic (E/E) systems. These changes directly lower bill-of-materials costs — one of the most critical levers for EV profitability. The modular design approach enables faster deployment of software updates across the lineup.

In the U.S., VinFast currently offers the VF 8 and VF 9. The company is also building out a nationwide dealership network, moving away from its earlier direct-to-consumer model.

AI and Autonomous Driving Roadmap

VinFast’s technology roadmap extends beyond manufacturing into vehicle intelligence. The company is progressing from ADAS Level 2+ and Level 2++ toward Level 4 autonomy. It operates an in-house ADAS research institute while collaborating with external technology partners.

A notable partnership involves Tensor, an AI company developing personally owned L4 autonomous vehicles. VinFast serves as the manufacturing and industrialization partner for Tensor’s robocar program. This approach leverages external AI innovation while keeping VinFast’s capital focused on production and scale.

The company continues to invest across its technology stack. This includes smart services, software ecosystems, domain and zonal vehicle architectures, and AI-enabled manufacturing systems.
