BREA, Calif. – Mullen Automotive, a California-based electric vehicle manufacturer, has teamed up with Menzies Aviation and Loop Global Inc. for a pilot program that will test Class 1 electric cargo vans at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The 60-day trial will evaluate the electric vehicles in a number of use cases across Menzies’ operations at LAX, including the transportation of cabin cleaning teams.
As part of its plan to become carbon neutral by 2033, Menzies is searching for innovative solutions to reduce emissions. The aviation services giant operates a global fleet of over 27,000 ground service equipment, including more than 8,000 vehicles, at 250-plus airports across 58 countries. The company is committed to switching to electric wherever possible to meet its sustainability goals.
Loop will provide electric vehicle charging infrastructure and fleet operations software for the Mullen electric vans through its electric vehicle fleet as-a-service (EVFaaS) program. With the Loop Charger Management System, Menzies will be able to keep the Mullen electric vehicles powered for daily operations.
John Redmond, Executive Vice President Americas, Menzies Aviation, said, “Working with suppliers, airports, and airline customers is crucial for Menzies to achieve its sustainability goals. This pilot program at LAX with Mullen and Loop will help us overcome the charging infrastructure barrier.”
Dustin Cavanaugh, CEO of Loop Global, added, “We are honored to be a part of this pioneering venture and hope this pilot will lead the way for fleet electrification at airports worldwide.”
David Michery, CEO and Chairman of Mullen Automotive, said, “Our commercial electric vehicles are a perfect fit for airport service and logistics operations, and we’re thrilled to be working with Menzies and Loop to provide a complete EV ecosystem solution.”
