Mercedes-Benz Launches All-New eSprinter: The Most Versatile Electric Van with Unmatched Efficiency and Rang

Stuttgart, Germany – Mercedes-Benz Vans has announced its plans to electrify all model series and has launched the all-new eSprinter as part of these efforts. The vehicle will be produced in North America and Europe and will be available in 60 markets worldwide, as the company aims to “Lead in Electric Drive”.

The all-new eSprinter features technical innovations and has a modular design consisting of three parts: a uniformly designed front section that includes high-voltage components, an integrated high-voltage battery located in the underbody, and an electrically driven rear axle with a compact and powerful electric motor. Mercedes-Benz has invested around 350 million euros in the development of the eSprinter and plans to adapt production at its three plants in Charleston, Düsseldorf, and Ludwigsfelde.

The market launch of the all-new eSprinter is set to begin in the second half of 2023 in the U.S. and Canada as a long cargo van with a high roof and a usable capacity of 113 kilowatt hours. It has a load capacity of 488 cubic feet and a permissible gross vehicle weight of 4.25 tons. The vehicle has an electric range of up to 400 kilometers (248.5 miles) and is ideal for longer journeys.

“With the new eSprinter, we are taking the electric large van segment to a new level,” says Mathias Geisen, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans. “The triad of efficiency, range and load capacity with simultaneous TCO optimization makes the new eSprinter the most versatile Mercedes-Benz eVan ever.”

The electric powertrain of the all-new eSprinter includes a new permanent magnet synchronous motor and an innovative electric rear axle, both of which are being used for the first time in a Mercedes-Benz battery-electric van. At launch, North American customers will have access to the largest battery with a usable capacity of 113 kilowatt hours, which can be charged with both AC and DC currents.

In terms of digitization and infotainment, the all-new eSprinter comes equipped with the latest software generation of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) and includes features such as navigation with “Electric Intelligence”. This system calculates the best charging strategy to reach the destination with the desired state of charge and provides real-time updates on range based on traffic and topography.
