Hyundai Showcases Hydrogen Ecosystem Plan at Rotterdam Summit

Hyundai Motor Group presented its hydrogen ecosystem vision for Europe at the World Hydrogen Summit 2026 in Rotterdam, showcasing the all-new NEXO FCEV and fuel cell systems for industrial applications.

Hyundai Motor Group presented its hydrogen ecosystem vision for Europe at the World Hydrogen Summit 2026 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, displaying the all-new NEXO fuel cell electric vehicle and a range of hydrogen fuel cell systems intended for use beyond mobility. The three-day exhibition, which ran from May 19 to 21, framed Hyundai as an integrated value chain partner spanning production, infrastructure, fuel cell systems, and end-use applications. The Group anchored its display around HTWO, its hydrogen brand and business platform, and pointed to deployments such as the XCIENT Fuel Cell truck as evidence of the company’s real-world hydrogen experience.

Highlights

  • All-new NEXO FCEV displayed as the centerpiece of Hyundai’s Rotterdam exhibition booth
  • HTWO platform positioned as the framework for an integrated hydrogen value chain across production, infrastructure, and fuel cell systems
  • Hydrogen fuel cell systems shown for stationary power, industrial applications, and integration with existing energy systems
  • XCIENT Fuel Cell truck cited alongside NEXO as evidence of the Group’s European hydrogen mobility track record

From Vehicles to Value Chains

The Group used its Rotterdam booth to extend its European story beyond passenger and commercial vehicles. According to Hyundai, the exhibition illustrated how its fuel cell systems can support stationary power solutions, industrial applications, and integration into existing energy systems, in addition to mobility.

The all-new NEXO, which the company describes as the successor to its NEXO fuel cell electric vehicle, served as the visible expression of that strategy. Hyundai reports that the model reflects the Group’s accumulated fuel cell development work in Korea, which it has carried across vehicles, trucks, and broader industrial deployments.

Partnership Pitch to European Stakeholders

Mark Freymüller, CEO of Hyundai Energy & Hydrogen Europe, framed the Rotterdam appearance as a partnership pitch to European policymakers, industry, and infrastructure operators.

“Our goal is to become a reliable partner in Europe’s hydrogen journey. We see hydrogen not as a stand-alone technology, but as a key enabler for cleaner mobility, resilient energy systems, and new industrial opportunities. Europe has ambitious hydrogen plans, and we bring experience from successful deployments that can help turn these plans into robust ecosystems. Hyundai Motor Group has accumulated extensive real-world experience with hydrogen across the entire value chain in Korea. We now want to bring this system-level expertise to Europe, with proven technologies, industry-leading expertise, and the willingness to build lasting relationships with policymakers, industry, and infrastructure partners,” Freymüller said.

The Group identified European policymakers, industry partners, and infrastructure operators as its target audiences for the engagement, signaling an intent to move from product showcases into longer-term ecosystem agreements.

HTWO as the Organizing Brand

HTWO remains the umbrella brand under which Hyundai houses its hydrogen activities. At Rotterdam, the platform was used to organize the Group’s display across production, infrastructure, fuel cell systems, and end-use applications — a structure intended to position Hyundai as a single counterparty for European partners looking across multiple parts of the hydrogen value chain.

In Europe specifically, the Group cited the NEXO FCEV and the XCIENT Fuel Cell truck as its existing reference points for hydrogen mobility. The Rotterdam program was framed as building on those deployments toward broader ecosystem work in collaboration with European partners across sectors.
