Mitsubishi Motors has unveiled a mid-cycle update for the 2026 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid. The refreshed SUV features a larger battery, more power, and interior and exterior revisions. Pricing starts at $43,245 MSRP, with U.S. dealership arrivals expected in May.
Highlights
- A new 22.7 kWh battery delivers 45 miles of all-electric range and 73 MPGe, a 15% capacity increase over the outgoing model.
- Total system output rises to 297 horsepower, supported by a 60% increase in power output from improved thermal management.
- Interior updates include redesigned seating surfaces, cooled front seats on select trims, and Yamaha Dynamic Sound audio systems.
- The 2026 model arrives in four trims — ES, SE, SEL, and a new Black Edition — starting at $43,245 before a $1,745 destination fee.
Powertrain and Battery Upgrades
The centerpiece of the refresh is a new 22.7 kWh battery pack. It replaces the previous unit with a 15% bump in capacity. However, the bigger story is thermal management. A new battery cooling system enables a 60% increase in power output.
All-electric range climbs to 45 miles. MPGe rises to 73. Mitsubishi says the improved cooling also allows electric operation in a wider variety of driving scenarios.
Total system horsepower reaches 297. Steering and suspension tuning have both been revised for what the automaker describes as a more engaging driving experience.
All models retain Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. The motorsport-derived AWD setup manages driving and braking forces across all four wheels.

Interior and Exterior Changes
Inside, the 2026 PHEV inherits the updates first applied to the 2025 Outlander ICE model. Key changes include:
- Seating: Revised surfaces with available cooled front seats
- Storage: Enlarged armrest storage, redesigned cupholders, and a new wireless charging pad
- Audio: Eight-speaker or 12-speaker Yamaha Dynamic Sound system, depending on trim
- NVH: Extensive sound deadening throughout the cabin
Outside, Mitsubishi has restyled the hood, front grille, and front and rear bumpers. All lighting is now LED, including new smoke-finish taillights. New 18-inch and 20-inch wheel designs round out the visual changes.
Trim Levels and Pricing
The 2026 Outlander PHEV is available in four trims:
- ES (base)
- SE
- SEL
- Black Edition (new for 2026)
Pricing starts at $43,245 MSRP. Destination adds $1,745 ($1,870 in Hawaii and Alaska). Packages and accessories are available across all trims.
Electrified Lineup and Warranty
With the addition of a mild-hybrid 2026 Outlander, every Outlander model is now electrified. This milestone aligns with Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 business plan. That strategy calls for at least one new or revised model each year through fiscal 2030.
“The 2026 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid is the flagship of our U.S. fleet,” said Mark Chaffin, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America. “As the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV, this is a technology that Mitsubishi Motors knows well.”
Chaffin added, “The real change for 2026 is in the way the vehicle performs. More electric operation, improved acceleration, a quieter and more engaging driving experience.”
All 2026 Mitsubishi vehicles include the brand’s standard warranty package. Coverage includes a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty.
