MOKE International has partnered with Bomporto Hotels to bring its Electric MOKE to three properties in Lisbon and Porto, marking the first time the fully electric vehicle has been available in Portugal. The initiative, launching in early July 2026, gives guests at Bomporto Hotels access to open-air electric cars for self-guided city exploration rather than fixed-itinerary sightseeing. Guests can book an Electric MOKE through the Bomporto guest app or via Guest Relations, with hire options ranging from hourly rentals to full-day trips. Nick Roucos, Managing Director at Bomporto Hotels and SLH Ambassador for Portugal, said the brand wanted guests to have “the freedom to get a little lost” rather than follow a rigid plan.
Highlights
- Electric MOKEs are now available at three Bomporto properties: The Lumiares Hotel & Spa and The Vintage Hotel & Spa in Lisbon, and The Rebello in Porto
- Rental pricing starts at €50 ($57) per hour and €225 ($257) per day
- Vehicles come in four signature colors: Palm Green, Eucalyptus Green, Shell White, and Wave Blue
- The company reports the Electric MOKE has a top speed of 50 mph and a range of up to 54 miles
Curated Routes in Lisbon and Porto
Each property offers its own set of driving routes designed around local discovery rather than landmark checklists. In Porto, routes run from the Douro riverfront toward the Atlantic coast, taking in viewpoints over the city and Vila Nova de Gaia before continuing through the coastal districts of Foz and Matosinhos. Lisbon routes range from longer coastal escapes toward Cascais and Guincho to urban loops connecting Belém, the LX Factory district, and the residential neighborhoods of Lapa and Marvila. Bomporto Hotels also arranges bespoke picnic experiences as part of the MOKE outings.
A Heritage Brand’s Electric Era
The MOKE traces back to the early 1960s, when it was designed by Sir Alec Issigonis — the engineer behind the Austin Mini — and went on to become a fixture in the French Riviera, California, and Australia, with early owners including The Beatles, Brigitte Bardot, and James Bond. MOKE International relaunched the vehicle as a fully electric model in 2022, becoming the first heritage automaker to go 100% electric, and each unit is still handcrafted in Northamptonshire, England. The brand’s push into hospitality partnerships follows a similar program at Four Seasons Hotel Miami, where guests use the open-air cars for self-guided tours of Brickell. MOKE International, now led by CEO Lorne Vary, has been expanding its direct-to-consumer and resort partnerships across Europe and the Americas.
