Mullen Launches PowerUP Mobile EV Charging Truck

What’s Happening

Mullen Automotive, an emerging leader in electric vehicle manufacturing, has officially introduced PowerUP, a mobile EV charging truck offering level 2 and level 3 DC fast charging capabilities. The truck is designed to facilitate charging in scenarios where conventional power sources are not readily available, such as roadside emergencies. PowerUP will be a key feature on Mullen’s 2023 “Strikingly Different” EV Tour, providing charging services for Mullen’s EVs on the road. The product is immediately available for advance orders for commercial applications including emergency response and roadside assistance.

Why It Matters

The introduction of PowerUP responds to a clear market need for robust, mobile charging solutions for electric vehicles, especially in remote areas and during emergencies. PowerUP represents an innovative solution to one of the most critical challenges for EV adoption: access to fast and convenient charging infrastructure. Its implementation across various sectors underscores Mullen’s commitment to enhancing EV accessibility and adoption, while demonstrating the practicality of its use.

Key Points

Based on a Class 5 truck platform, the PowerUP mobile charging truck delivers up to 150kW of continuous power. It features two level 3 DC fast chargers and four level 2 chargers. It boasts a Class 5 Bi-Fuel (Gasoline – LP/RLP) cabover chassis with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 19,500 lbs. Furthermore, it includes a 150kW dual fuel (propane/natural gas) onboard generator and approximately 150 gallons of onboard propane storage.

David Michery, CEO and Chairman of Mullen Automotive, commented on the difficulties experienced during their previous tour, emphasizing the shortage of Level 3 DC fast charging options. Hence, the company decided to design PowerUP to support the 2023 tour and future commercial applications.

The upcoming tour will commence on Aug. 19, 2023, spanning the East Coast, Midwest, Northwest, and concluding in California. Initial locations include Austin, TX, New Orleans, LA, Washington D.C, Philadelphia, PA, and Las Vegas, NV, with more to be announced soon.

Bottom Line

Mullen Automotive’s PowerUP is set to revolutionize mobile charging solutions for EVs, providing critical support during roadside emergencies and enhancing the convenience of long-distance travel with EVs. With its high power generation capacity and flexible application across various sectors, PowerUP illustrates Mullen’s commitment to fostering EV adoption and resilience. The truck’s debut on the “Strikingly Different” EV Tour in 2023 is an opportunity for Mullen to showcase its ingenuity and the practicality of their innovations in real-world applications.
