Munro Vehicles Unveils New Electric Pick-Up Model: The Mk_1

What’s Happening

Scotland-based car company, Munro Vehicles (Munro), has announced its second model, the Mk_1 Pick-Up. This revelation occurred at the Fully Charged Live North event, which ran from the 19th to the 21st of May, 2023. The Mk_1 Pick-Up is an all-electric 4×4, a utilitarian vehicle designed to meet the needs of industries with challenging operating conditions, such as mining, construction, agriculture, and defense.

Why It Matters

This new vehicle model signifies a crucial step in Munro’s strategic mission to meet the burgeoning global demand for electric vehicles (EVs) without compromising on performance. The Mk_1 Pick-Up comes on the heels of the successful launch of Munro’s Mk_1 Truck in December of the previous year. Both vehicles are equipped with a state-of-the-art electric powertrain, which eliminates tailpipe emissions, thus helping industries meet their decarbonization goals.

Key Points

The Mk_1 Pick-Up will be priced from £49,995 Ex VAT, with deliveries expected to commence later this year. Already, more than 200 orders have been secured, including three from FTSE 100 companies and ten from FTSE 250 companies. The demand for Munro’s electric vehicles has grown so significantly that the company is now seeking larger premises to meet the orders, according to Munro CEO and Co-Founder Russell Peterson.

The Mk_1 Pick-Up, in its ‘Performance’ version, features a striking Munro yellow paint finish and offers an impressive visual presence. It combines rugged reliability with the convenience of easy repairability and the advantages of a full-time 4×4 mechanical drivetrain, ensuring the vehicle’s ability to withstand all terrains and weather conditions.

The vehicle’s rear bed can carry a 1050kg Euro Pallet payload, and its maximum braked towing capacity is 3500kg. It boasts a powerful 220KW electric motor and offers both Utility and Range variants. The battery can be charged from 15% to 80% in just 36 minutes using a 100kW DC charger. A fully charged battery provides a range of over 190 miles, allowing for up to 16 hours of off-road operation on a single charge.

Bottom Line

The Mk_1 Pick-Up is the first light vehicle to be produced in Scotland in over four decades, signifying a significant milestone in the local car manufacturing industry. Munro’s electric vehicles have generated positive responses, with the Mk_1 Pick-Up and the Mk_1 Truck already securing over 200 pre-orders. Munro’s ambitious approach and commitment to sustainable mobility are likely to contribute significantly to global decarbonization efforts, especially in industries operating in challenging environments.
