Thomas Built Buses has unveiled the second-generation Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley battery-electric school bus. With advanced features, including the Accelera 14Xe eAxle and Proterra 800-volt battery system, this next-gen vehicle enhances efficiency, performance, and serviceability. Introduced as a customer-driven evolution of its predecessor, the new Jouley exemplifies innovation in sustainable student transportation.

Key Highlights

  • Advanced eAxle Technology: The Accelera 14Xe eAxle integrates motor, transmission, brakes, and drivetrain into a single unit, improving efficiency and reducing complexity.
  • High-Performance Battery: An 800-volt Proterra battery enhances acceleration, gradeability, and startability across diverse terrains, including hilly and mountainous regions.
  • Enhanced Serviceability: Simplified design reduces maintenance requirements with centralized components and direct access to key systems.
  • New Wheelbase Option: A 219-inch wheelbase accommodates up to 60 passengers and improves vehicle maneuverability.
  • Modernized Interface: A liquid-crystal display (LCD) digital dash offers drivers advanced diagnostics and intuitive controls.

At the heart of the second-generation Jouley is Accelera’s 14Xe eAxle, which eliminates the need for a traditional driveshaft, delivering direct power to the wheels. Coupled with Accelera’s ELFA inverter, the design provides smoother acceleration and torque, while its streamlined architecture lowers service costs and increases uptime. The 800-volt Proterra battery system supports essential features like air conditioning and heaters without sacrificing performance.

The new Jouley prioritizes maintenance with features like a toe board floor access panel for direct high-voltage system access and a relocated heating loop surge tank for easier servicing. These enhancements allow technicians to perform diagnostics and repairs more efficiently, minimizing downtime for school districts.

Thomas Built Buses has also addressed customer requests with the introduction of a 219-inch wheelbase, improving the bus’s ability to navigate tight spaces and fit into service bays. Additionally, the LCD digital dash aligns with modern automotive technology, providing real-time operational data and diagnostics, with future updates achievable through software enhancements.

Production of the second-generation Jouley has already commenced, with additional wheelbase options slated for release in 2025. Thomas Built Buses continues to lead the charge in sustainable student transportation with a commitment to innovation and customer-focused solutions.
