Nikola Corporation, a leader in zero-emissions transportation solutions, successfully delivered 35 Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks (FCEVs) to customers in the U.S. and Canada in 2023. This achievement marks a significant milestone in Nikola’s journey to decarbonize the trucking industry.
“Our dedicated team’s hard work has made it possible to bring the first U.S.-designed and assembled Class 8 hydrogen FCEV to market,” said Nikola CEO Steve Girsky. “We’re incredibly proud to have delivered these trucks to our customers and are grateful for the support of our employees, partners, and customers. We look forward to scaling production and delivering even more trucks in 2024.”
Beyond Deliveries: Building Momentum
Nikola’s FCEV boasts an impressive range of up to 500 miles and a rapid fueling time of approximately 20 minutes. This positions it as one of the longest-range, zero-tailpipe emission Class 8 trucks available, making it suitable for diverse applications across the trucking industry.
“Nikola’s FCEV offers a cleaner, more reliable way to deliver goods across North America,” Girsky added. “Our customer pilot programs have shown remarkable results, with truck uptime exceeding 98%, a crucial factor for efficient fleet operations.”
Production of the FCEV commenced in July 2023 at Nikola’s Coolidge, Arizona facility, followed by a commercial launch in September. While seven trucks remain un-wholesaled, they are actively involved in field testing, validation, engineering, and customer demonstrations.
