NIO Energy Co., Ltd. (“NIO Power“) and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Automobile Sales Co., Ltd. (“Geely Group”) have entered into a cooperative agreement that marks a significant step forward for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in China. This collaboration is set to enhance the charging network availability for both companies’ consumers, underscoring a pivotal moment in China’s EV market development.

Key Highlights:

  • Mutual Charging Network Access: Geely Group’s brands, including Geely Galaxy, Geely Geometry, Lynk & Co, ZEEKR, Polestar, and smart, will gain access to NIO Power’s extensive charging network.
  • Charging Network Stats: NIO boasts 3,740 charging stations and 21,739 chargers across 312 cities in China, leading in public and expressway charger counts.
  • Comprehensive Cooperation: Beyond charging network sharing, NIO and Geely have committed to a strategic partnership focusing on battery swap technology and network expansion.

By utilizing each other’s charging networks, users of NIO and Geely Group’s brands can easily find, use, and pay for charging services through their respective vehicle brand apps. This initiative not only broadens the charging options for users but also facilitates a more seamless EV experience across the country.

NIO leads in the number of public chargers and super chargers on expressways in China, contributing significantly to the accessibility and convenience of EV charging. Additionally, NIO’s commitment to open its chargers to all NEV users, with 80% of electricity provided to non-NIO EVs, highlights its dedication to a more inclusive EV ecosystem.

The collaboration extends beyond charging network sharing to a strategic partnership on battery swap, involving cooperation on battery standards, swapping technologies, and network expansion. This partnership aims to enhance the EV user experience, making electric driving more accessible and convenient for a broader audience.

By opening up and sharing their recharging networks, NIO and Geely are not only improving the infrastructure for current EV users but are also paving the way for future developments in the electric vehicle industry. This move is expected to encourage more consumers to consider EVs as a viable and practical option for their transportation needs.
