Nissan Ariya Earns Top Safety Rating with 2023 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+

Nissan’s electric Ariya crossover scores top marks in crash tests and safety features

The 2023 Nissan Ariya, the brand’s most advanced vehicle yet, has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating – the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+. This prestigious designation applies to vehicles built after March 2023, and signifies the Ariya’s exceptional performance in crashworthiness, headlight effectiveness, and crash-prevention technology.

To earn the coveted TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating, vehicles must excel in rigorous IIHS tests. These include “Good” ratings in driver- and passenger-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and updated side-impact crash tests. Additionally, vehicles must have headlights rated “Good” or “Acceptable” across all trims, and achieve “Advanced” or “Superior” ratings in both daytime and nighttime testing of vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention systems.

With stricter criteria implemented for 2023, the TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating now reflects an even higher level of safety performance. The new requirements include:

  • An updated side-impact test with 82% more energy than the previous test
  • An additional nighttime test for vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention
  • More stringent headlight requirements

“The Ariya embodies Nissan’s commitment to cutting-edge engineering, and this recognition from such a respected safety organization validates our dedication to delivering the latest innovations in this realm,” said Michael Colleran, Senior Vice President of U.S. Marketing and Sales at Nissan North America. “Receiving the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, especially under the stricter 2023 standards, provides peace of mind for consumers considering the Ariya as their next vehicle.”

Standard on all 2023 Nissan Ariya models is the Nissan Safety Shield® 360 suite, comprising six advanced safety features: Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, and Rear Automatic Braking. Additionally, all Ariya grades come with full-LED headlights equipped with Intelligent Auto Headlights and High Beam Assist for enhanced nighttime visibility.

The Ariya further bolsters driver confidence with its suite of driver assistance technologies. These include:

  • Standard ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link, providing steering assistance and Intelligent Cruise Control for smoother highway driving
  • Available ProPILOT Assist 2.0, which allows attentive drivers to temporarily remove their hands from the wheel under specific conditions
  • Available ProPILOT Park, which takes over steering, acceleration, braking, and gear shifting to effortlessly guide the vehicle into a parking space

With its top-tier safety rating and comprehensive suite of driver-assist technologies, the 2023 Nissan Ariya proves itself a leader in the electric SUV segment, prioritizing both performance and driver confidence.
