Nissan Launches First PHEV Pickup for Global Export

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has announced that its joint venture, Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile Co., Ltd., will launch the all-new Frontier Pro and Frontier Pro PHEV. This release marks the manufacturer’s first pickup truck equipped with a plug-in hybrid system.

Both the Frontier Pro and Frontier Pro PHEV represent the first pickup trucks designed, developed, and manufactured in China for global export. Steven Ma, Chairman of the China Management Committee, stated that the Frontier Pro represents a significant milestone in the company’s global strategy.

Exports are scheduled to begin in the first half of next year. The company intends to utilize this launch to drive the market with local innovation and establish new trends in the LCV sector.

Market pricing in China is set as follows:

  • Frontier Pro: 169.9 to 199.9 thousand RMB.
  • Frontier Pro PHEV: 189.9 to 249.9 thousand RMB.

Powertrain Specifications

The Frontier Pro PHEV integrates a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a high-output electric motor. This system delivers over 300kW of power and 800Nm of torque, designed for energy efficiency and performance.

The electric vehicle (EV) mode targets a maximum range of 135km based on NEDC certification standards. Additionally, a 6kW intelligent external power supply is available to power outdoor equipment.

The combustion model utilizes a third-generation M9T diesel engine. This powertrain produces 500Nm of torque and operates via a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.

Engineering and Design Features

The vehicle architecture extensively uses high-strength steel in the body and frame to maintain ride stability over harsh terrain. Exterior panels are constructed from 100% double-sided galvanized steel, and the underbody is coated to protect against gravel.

Technological integrations include 25 driver-assistance features that support active accident prevention and occupant protection. The exterior design features a V-motion grille, laser-engraved logo, and advanced LED headlights.

Key interior specifications include:

  • Seating: Front leather seats utilize a six-layer breathable cushion for driver comfort.
  • Materials: The cabin utilizes refined suede materials resistant to abrasion and scratches.
  • Utility: Rear seats offer seven configurations and provide up to 970 liters of storage capacity when flat.
