Nissan NX8 Electrified SUV Launches in China

Dongfeng Nissan launched the NX8 electrified SUV in China with BEV and REEV powertrains, 800V fast charging, and pricing from approximately $23,400 USD.

Dongfeng Nissan launched the NX8 on April 8, a mid-size electrified SUV developed exclusively for the Chinese market. The vehicle is available as both a battery electric vehicle and a range-extended electric vehicle, with prices starting at 159,900 yuan (~$23,400 USD). BEV sales began immediately, while REEV deliveries are scheduled from mid-to-late May.

Highlights

  • Dual powertrains: The NX8 offers BEV grades with up to 650 km of CLTC range and REEV grades with up to 1,450 km of combined range.
  • 800V fast charging: An 800V silicon carbide architecture with 5C charging capability recovers approximately 300 km of range in six minutes on BEV models.
  • Early demand: Dongfeng Nissan reported 8,423 orders within 30 minutes of the launch event.
  • Standard equipment: All six grades include 71 convenience, comfort, and safety features as standard, including dual 15.6-inch displays and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chipset.

Third N Series Model

The NX8 is the third model in Nissan’s China-market N Series, following the N6 plug-in hybrid sedan and the N7 electric sedan. Built on Dongfeng Nissan’s Tianyan Architecture 2.0, it measures 4,870 mm long with a 2,917 mm wheelbase. The SUV seats five passengers.

Production began at the Guangzhou Huadu factory on January 27, 2026. Nissan previously previewed the NX8 as the Epic Concept at Auto China 2024.

BEV Powertrain Details

The battery electric lineup consists of three grades: 580 Pro, 580 Max, and 650 Max. Maximum CLTC driving range reaches 650 km from a single rear-mounted electric motor producing up to 250 kW (335 hp). CATL supplies the lithium iron phosphate cells, which Nissan developed and packaged in-house.

Peak charging power reaches 463 kW, enabling a 10–80% charge in approximately 12 minutes. Nissan claims approximately 300 km of range recovery in six minutes.

Note: All range figures are based on the Chinese CLTC testing cycle, which typically produces higher estimates than EPA ratings. No EPA-certified figures are available for this China-market vehicle.

REEV Powertrain Details

The range-extended lineup includes three grades: 150 Pro, 150 Max, and 310 Max. These pair a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (109 kW) with a 195 kW electric motor producing 310 Nm of torque. The engine functions exclusively as a generator.

The top REEV grade delivers up to 310 km of electric-only range and a combined range of 1,450 km. Fuel consumption in gasoline operation is rated at 4.51 liters per 100 km. Battery options range from 20.3 kWh to 37.4 kWh across the REEV lineup, with cells sourced from both CATL and Ruipu Lanjun.

Interior and Technology

Nissan designed the cabin around a philosophy that each seating position should deliver equal comfort. The 773-liter luggage compartment can accommodate up to 35 suitcases. Additional features include a bidirectional onboard refrigerator with a temperature range of -6°C to 55°C and a pet protection mode that monitors cabin temperature.

The infotainment system runs Nissan OS 2.0 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chipset with 256 GB of storage. A 63-inch augmented reality head-up display and 25-speaker audio system with 2,000-watt output come standard. Other comfort features include zero-gravity front seats with 25 massage airbags, power-reclining rear seats, and motion sickness prevention technology.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The NX8 uses a steel-aluminum hybrid body structure with 2,000 MPa-class ultra-high-strength steel. Its Cloud Shield Battery 2.0 system has been tested against 146 safety criteria, with 24-hour cloud-based monitoring.

A LiDAR-equipped driver assistance system, jointly developed with Chinese autonomous driving firm Momenta, supports highway and urban navigation-on-autopilot functions as well as automated parking. Rear OLED combination lamps use what Nissan describes as the highest number of OLED lighting units in production, totaling 2,064 individual elements.

Pricing and Availability

BEV grades are priced from 159,900 to 209,900 yuan (~$23,400–$30,700 USD at approximately 6.83 CNY/USD). A limited-time promotional starting price of 149,900 yuan (~$21,900 USD) was offered at launch. REEV grades range from 159,900 to 179,900 yuan (~$23,400–$26,300 USD).

The NX8 competes directly with domestic Chinese models including the Li Auto L6, Aito M6, and Xpeng G-series SUVs.
