Oerlikon has launched a new range of innovative safety components designed specifically for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). These components include heat shields, gas guidance systems, and cell separators, which significantly enhance heat protection and improve the electrical and mechanical strength of batteries. The launch aims to address the critical issue of thermal runaway in high-performance battery systems, thereby safeguarding passengers and preventing extensive vehicle damage.

Oerlikon has introduced a comprehensive suite of customized safety components for BEVs. These include pioneering heat shields, gas guidance systems, and cell separators. In the event of a battery fire, these components provide enhanced heat protection and improve the electrical and mechanical strength of the batteries, which can be crucial in saving passengers’ lives.
Thermal Runaway Challenges
Thermal runaway remains a significant challenge in high-performance battery systems, posing risks of extensive vehicle damage and passenger endangerment. “Oerlikon is renowned in the automotive market for its engineering expertise and materials innovation. Now we combine carefully engineered cutting-edge heat-resistant materials with an intelligent design to create thermal insulation systems that are redefining industry standards,” said Marcus Spreckels, Head of Technology TIS.

Series Production Commenced
