Polestar Energy removes the complexity of managing EV charging. “We launched the Polestar Energy app to take the guesswork out of home charging,” says Olivier Loedel, Head of Software Product Management at Polestar. By linking the vehicle, compatible home charger, and electricity contract, users can set desired charge levels and let the app determine the best times and tariffs for charging.
With its ability to reduce peak energy usage, Polestar Energy enhances grid stability while minimizing environmental impact. The app also incorporates domestic solar energy production, enabling users to charge their vehicles using renewable energy when available.
Polestar 3 customers will soon enjoy bi-directional charging, transforming parked EVs into virtual power plants. “The increased energy demand from electric vehicles has the potential to destabilize the local grid, but they also present the perfect opportunity to reduce spikes in demand and harness excess energy,” adds Loedel.
Polestar’s partnership with Zaptec ensures seamless integration with stylish wallbox hardware, and the brand envisions an open ecosystem encompassing more energy providers and hardware partners in the future.
