Porsche Cars North America is recalling certain 2024-2025 Macan Electric vehicles due to headlight brightness levels that exceed the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108. The excessively bright headlights may impair visibility for oncoming drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

Key Highlights:

  • Recall Affects 2,941 Vehicles: The recall affects 2024-2025 Porsche Macan Electric vehicles produced between March 15, 2024, and November 4, 2024.
  • Non-Compliance with FMVSS No. 108: The headlights emit brightness levels beyond the maximum allowable threshold, causing non-compliance with FMVSS No. 108.
  • Free Reprogramming Remedy: Owners will be offered a free software reprogramming of the headlight control unit to correct the issue.
  • Notification Schedule: Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by January 24, 2025.

Recall Details

The recall, issued under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V889000, involves 2,941 units of the 2024-2025 Macan Electric vehicles. The problem originates from a software data set error that mistakenly configured the headlight brightness according to European specifications (ECE) rather than the requirements set forth by FMVSS No. 108. This misconfiguration results in the high beams exceeding the photometric intensity limits, which can impair visibility for other drivers and increase the risk of a collision.

To resolve this issue, dealers will reprogram the headlight control unit software, free of charge. The recall population was determined based on production records, and all affected vehicles are still covered under the Porsche New Car Limited Warranty. No reimbursements will be provided for pre-notification repairs, as none were performed.

Owners will be informed about the recall through notification letters mailed by January 24, 2025. For additional information, owners can contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243 or visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website at nhtsa.gov.

Production Correction and Compliance

The error was corrected in production starting November 18, 2024, by applying the correct software data set that complies with FMVSS No. 108. This ensures that newly produced Macan Electric vehicles meet all regulatory standards for headlight brightness.

For further assistance or questions, affected owners can reach the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit nhtsa.gov to check the status of the recall.
