The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has once again proven its excellence by winning Road & Track’s Performance EV of the Year award in the category for vehicles priced over $100,000. This is the second consecutive year that a Taycan model has earned this prestigious honor, with the Taycan Turbo S variant having taken the top spot last year.
Key Highlights:
- Second consecutive win for a Porsche Taycan model in Road & Track’s Performance EV of the Year.
- The Taycan Turbo GT was recognized for its combination of everyday usability and outstanding power.
- Achieved top lap times during testing, lapping the track two seconds faster than its nearest competitor.
- 1,019 horsepower, making it the most powerful road car ever developed by Porsche.
Road & Track’s Editor-in-Chief, Daniel Pund, remarked on the impressive nature of the Taycan Turbo GT, noting its evolution beyond its predecessor. He stated, “The Taycan Turbo GT was truly impressive and has taken a significant step on from its Taycan Turbo S brother, which won the award last year. What really caught our attention is that this is a practical sedan that could be used every day, but also happens to be the company’s most powerful road car ever.”
Porsche Cars North America’s President and CEO, Timo Resch, expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying, “We never take wins for granted, and we’re grateful to receive this award – in what is a really competitive category – from the experts at Road & Track. This independent assessment means a lot to us and is testament to the great work and care that went into developing this exciting new variant of the Taycan.”
To qualify for the Performance EV of the Year test, each car had to show substantial improvements compared to 2023 models, though not necessarily be entirely new. Eligible vehicles were also required to be available in the United States by the end of 2024 and must focus heavily on driver enjoyment. The only judging criterion was driver engagement, and the editorial staff conducted testing on a mix of New York state roads and at the New York Safety Track in Harpersfield, NY. During track testing, the Taycan Turbo GT demonstrated its superiority by lapping the track approximately two seconds faster than its closest rival.
Originally launched in 2019, the Porsche Taycan received significant enhancements for the 2025 model year, leading to improved performance, increased range, quicker charging times, and more standard features. The new Taycan Turbo GT now sits at the top of the model lineup, boasting up to 1,019 horsepower and claiming the title of Porsche’s quickest and most powerful production car to date, with an acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.1 seconds when equipped with the Weissach Package.
