International Charge Point Operator (CPO) PowerGo is significantly expanding its ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging network with new strategic highway locations in Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, and Belgium. This development aims to support the increasing demand for electric mobility across Europe by offering EV drivers reliable, high-speed charging solutions (up to 240-480 kilowatts (kW)) in convenient locations.

Key Highlights:

  • Multi-Country Expansion: New ultra-fast charging sites are being established in Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, and Belgium.
  • High-Speed Charging: All new locations will provide charging speeds ranging from 240 to 480 kW.
  • Denmark: Ten new ultra-fast charging points will be installed across three highway locations.
  • The Netherlands: A new ultra-fast charging hub in North Holland is planned, with future expansion for electric truck charging.
  • Belgium: Ghent will host a new hub featuring six ultra-fast charging points.
  • Spain: Twenty-four ultra-fast charging points will be deployed at six locations surrounding Madrid.
  • User-Focused Design: Each site prioritizes user comfort and accessibility, often including amenities and real-time price displays.
  • Sustainable Operations: Charging stations are powered by 100 percent solar energy from parent company PowerField.
PowerGo Expands Ultra-Fast EV Network

In Denmark, PowerGo recently secured a tender from the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) to install 10 charging points across three highway locations. Each site will be equipped with chargers capable of delivering up to 480 kW. The new installations will be near Torkilstrup (Rute 21), Aalborg (E45), and Aabenraa (E45), enhancing connectivity with existing PowerGo sites at Lillebælt Syd and Haderup.

The Netherlands will see the development of a charging hub in the province of North Holland at the Gasterij Vuurland event venue. Strategically positioned along the A9 highway near Knooppunt Beverwijk, this hub is set for future upgrades, including a higher-capacity grid connection to support EV charging for logistics and electric trucks.

In Belgium, PowerGo won a tender for a charging hub along the E40 in Ghent as part of “The Loop” urban development project. This hub will feature six charging points, each with a maximum capacity of 400 kW, and is strategically located between the N43 and R4 roads.

Spain will benefit from 24 new charging points across six key highway locations surrounding Madrid, following an agreement with SEITT, the Spanish state-owned company for transport infrastructure. These chargers, each offering up to 400 kW, will be installed at service areas along the R2, R3, and R5 highways, vital routes for traffic in and out of the capital.

PowerGo is committed to enhancing the charging experience. Most new locations will feature amenities such as canopies, restrooms, additional space for disabled users, vending machines, and greenery. Some sites are integrated with existing service areas. Whenever possible, signage displaying real-time charging prices will be installed. EV drivers can benefit from dynamic pricing through the free PowerGo Charge app, which ensures fair and transparent costs based on real-time electricity prices, often making charging cheaper during periods of high renewable energy availability. Payment is facilitated via the app, bank card, or charging card.

Ivo van Dam, CEO of PowerGo, stated, “With the expansion of our ultra-fast charging network along European highways, we are taking another important step towards making electric driving even more accessible for everyone… Our focus remains on providing the EV driver with a fast, reliable, and sustainable charging experience, wherever they need it.”

PowerGo, active in seven European countries with over 1,700 charging points, is a subsidiary of PowerField, a Dutch organization specializing in solar energy. This relationship ensures that PowerGo’s charging stations are powered by 100 percent renewable solar energy.
