The Nissan Qashqai e-POWER has gained further recognition with a top honor from the cinch 2024 Car of the Year awards, highlighting the vehicle’s cutting-edge approach to electrified driving. Judges praised the Qashqai e-POWER for its unique technology and spirited performance, reinforcing Nissan’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions that blend convenience, efficiency, and excitement.

Key Highlights:

  • Over 140,000 Qashqai e-POWER units sold since September 2022
  • Wheels driven only by an electric motor, offering an EV-like experience
  • Turbocharged three-cylinder engine operates exclusively to generate electricity
  • Celebrated by News UK as a best-in-class model in 2024
  • Built in Britain, with local design, engineering, and manufacturing expertise

Sam Sheehan, motoring editor at cinch, said: “What makes the Qashqai e-POWER so good is how its hybrid system works – it shows that hybrid cars don’t need to be boring to look at or to drive.

“It feels like an electric car with zippy acceleration and one-pedal driving, and yet it’s as convenient as a petrol car because it doesn’t need to be plugged in.”

Designed, engineered, and assembled in Britain, the Qashqai received a comprehensive update in 2024, including a fresh design and upgraded technology. It also secured accolades from prominent motoring experts at News UK, publishers of major British newspapers such as The Sun and The Sunday Times, underscoring its impact on the market. The award-winning marketing campaign further elevated awareness of the e-POWER platform, which resonates with drivers who appreciate electric vehicle benefits yet prefer not to rely on charging infrastructure.

Michael Auliar, sales director at Nissan GB, said: “With eye-catching design, intuitive technology, the latest safety features and award-winning powertrains, it’s no wonder our customers love the Qashqai.

“Receiving this award is fantastic recognition for Nissan teams across the UK, all of which have contributed to Qashqai’s UK development and helped to maintain its position as a British automotive industry success.”

The e-POWER system sets itself apart through a 140kW electric motor and a 1.8kWh battery that power the wheels, while the gasoline engine quietly works to recharge the battery. This layout ensures an engaging drive—akin to a pure electric vehicle—without requiring a plug-in to charge. By providing the “electric drive” feeling, the Qashqai e-POWER appeals to those not yet ready for a 100% electric car but still eager to experience advanced, efficient technology on the road.

Nissan’s commitment to sustainability remains at the forefront of the company’s vision, epitomized by the Ambition 2030 strategy. Aligned with Nissan’s AMIEO region goals, the brand strives to reduce its environmental footprint and expand electrified mobility worldwide through EV36Zero and beyond.
