The Renault 4 E-Tech electric “Plein Sud” canvas-roof variant opens for UK orders today from £27,445 (about $37,300) on-the-road after the £3,750 Electric Car Grant, with first deliveries scheduled for Q3 2026. Renault said the model is the only electric B-segment SUV offering a full-length electric folding fabric roof. The variant launches in techno+ and iconic+ trims and qualifies for the maximum ECG tier alongside the Renault 5 E-Tech and Scenic E-Tech. Full specifications and ordering information are available on the Renault 4 E-Tech electric model page.

A modern reinterpretation of the original Renault 4 roof
The Plein Sud variant revives a signature feature of the 1961–1994 Renault 4, which used a simple roll-back fabric roof. The contemporary version is electrically operated and gathers into three folds, with multiple intermediate positions selectable through the cabin controls or the Reno voice assistant. Renault said the multi-layer construction preserves acoustic and sealing performance when closed, with minimal impact on headroom compared with the fixed-roof body.
The 80 x 92 cm aperture extends across the full length of the cabin, giving rear passengers the same open-air view as those in the front. To accommodate the mechanism, Plein Sud versions delete the standard roof bars and shark-fin antenna. All other specifications mirror the fixed-roof model.
No compromise on cargo capacity
Unlike many canvas-roof designs, the Plein Sud retains the full luggage volume of the standard Renault 4 E-Tech. Boot space with the rear seats folded remains at up to 1,350 liters, and the load sill stays at 607 mm. Power-operated tailgate access is standard on iconic+ trim.
Ground clearance is unchanged at up to 181 mm, and the underlying AmpR Small platform shared with the Renault 5 E-Tech is unaltered. The 10-inch OpenR Link infotainment system with Google built-in carries over, paired with a 10.3-inch digital driver display.

Powertrain and charging
The Plein Sud uses the same 52 kWh lithium-ion (NMC) battery and 110 kW (150 hp) coiled-rotor synchronous motor as the comfort range fixed-roof car. WLTP range is rated at up to 242 miles, with combined consumption of 15.8–15.9 kWh per 62 miles. The 0–62 mph time is 8.2 seconds and top speed is 93 mph.
WLTP figures typically run higher than EPA-rated equivalents and are not directly comparable for North American readers. Renault reports a 15–80% DC rapid charge in approximately 30 minutes at up to 100 kW, and an 11 kW three-phase AC charge from 15–80% in 3 hours 13 minutes. One-pedal driving is standard on both Plein Sud trims.
When the original Renault 4 E-Tech opened for UK orders in 2025, pricing started at £26,995 OTR before any grant; the canvas-roof Plein Sud now lists at £27,445 OTR after a £3,750 ECG deduction, indicating a pre-grant techno+ Plein Sud price near £31,195 and confirming Renault’s stated £1,500 premium over the equivalent fixed-roof techno+ trim. The pricing also places the Plein Sud well below the £37,000 ECG cap that has excluded several rival B-segment EVs from the maximum grant tier.

Safety and driver assistance
The Plein Sud introduces the GSR2.3 regulatory package across the Renault 4 E-Tech range, bringing the count of available advanced driver assistance systems to as many as 28. A windscreen-pillar camera monitors driver fatigue and feeds an alertness reading into the post-trip Safety Score.
An emergency stop assist function works with active driver assist to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop if the driver becomes unresponsive. The eco-driving assistant is now predictive, drawing on onboard map data to flag upcoming bends and roundabouts so the driver can lift off the accelerator earlier.
Pricing and trims
The Plein Sud is offered exclusively in techno+ and iconic+ trim. Techno+ models include 18-inch alloys, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, hands-free parking, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go. Iconic+ adds a Harman Kardon premium audio system, heated front seats and steering wheel, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane centering, and a hands-free power tailgate.
Six exterior colors are available, including a new Hauts-de-France Green finish that Renault said is a tribute to the Île-de-France Blue used on the 1960s original.
