Rivian has announced a significant update for its vehicle owners: access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, marking a milestone in electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure collaboration. Starting in April, Rivian owners will receive special adapters, enabling them to use over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America. This move is seen as a major step towards enhancing range confidence and facilitating mass EV adoption by providing fast, seamless charging experiences.

Key Highlights:

  • Rivian owners to access Tesla Superchargers with NACS DC adapters starting in April.
  • Over 15,000 fast chargers will be available in addition to Rivian’s existing network.
  • Seamless integration with Rivian’s charging ecosystem for an end-to-end experience.
  • Future vehicles to include NACS hardware, with adapters shipped free this spring.
  • Expansion of Rivian Adventure Network to include over 424 chargers at 70 sites.
Rivian Vehicles Gain Supercharger Access

Rivian’s integration into Tesla’s Supercharger network is a strategic move to eliminate one of the most significant barriers to EV adoption: the availability of reliable and fast charging stations. With access to more than 31,000 fast chargers across North America, Rivian is setting a new standard for electric mobility.

The company’s approach to charging infrastructure is comprehensive. By handling both the hardware and software aspects of their charging solutions, Rivian ensures a frictionless transition between different charging networks. This integrated system, accessible via Rivian’s mobile app and in-vehicle infotainment, allows for efficient trip planning, including filtering chargers, setting route preferences, and navigating with real-time information on charger speeds and availability.

Furthermore, Rivian is committed to expanding its own network, the Rivian Adventure Network, which focuses on placing fast chargers in key locations, including near major national parks and in underserved charging areas. This expansion not only serves Rivian owners but will soon be available to all EV drivers, promoting broader EV adoption.

By the end of this initiative, Rivian vehicles will come equipped with NACS connectors, starting in 2025, streamlining the charging process and ensuring compatibility across the rapidly growing EV charging infrastructure. This foresight underscores Rivian’s commitment to sustainability and its vision for an electrified future, free from the anxiety of range limitations.
