Rolec, a UK manufacturing leader in DC rapid and ultra-rapid charging, has announced the launch of its upgraded UltraCharge DC charging range through a strategic partnership with Dutch design and engineering company EVbee. This collaboration aims to accelerate the development of EV infrastructure by combining Rolec’s extensive UK market experience with EVbee’s award-winning, user-centric EV charging technology.
Key Highlights:
- Rolec and EVbee have formed a strategic partnership to advance EV infrastructure.
- The collaboration introduces four new additions to Rolec’s UltraCharge range.
- The upgraded range offers wider power outputs, from 40kW to 1.6MW+, catering to diverse commercial and public sector needs.
- Standard specifications have been improved, including better LCD screens and advanced cable management solutions, without increasing costs.
- The new units feature a smaller footprint and easier installation.
- All models support future-ready connectivity (Wi-Fi, ethernet, 4G) and comply with PAS 1899 standards.
- Charging can be controlled via ISO15118 plug & charge, RFID, OCPP apps, or contactless payment.
The partnership between Rolec, with over six years of expertise in DC charging, and EVbee, known for its strong European presence and modular solutions, is set to deliver a more well-rounded, premium, and future-proof charging package. Frankie Mellon, Managing Director at Rolec, highlighted the “strong green tech synergy” and “shared focus on DC expansion and agile design” between the two companies. Dr. Tao Yang, Founder and CTO of EVbee, added that Rolec’s “strong presence in the UK and trusted reputation” aligns with EVbee’s ambition to “push innovation to the next level”.
The new UltraCharge range has been designed to serve a broader spectrum of applications with enhanced flexibility. The UltraCharge 40 is a compact 40kW DC charger ideal for small businesses, workshops, and workplaces, available in wall or post-mounted options. It also supports fleet and public charging with contactless payment options.
The UltraCharge 80, delivering up to 80kW, is a dual-output model with intelligent power sharing, suited for busy commercial sites, public transport, dealerships, and depots. It features 5m cables capable of delivering an 80kW charge rate to a standard 400V vehicle and can adaptively designate charge to the vehicle with less battery.
For high-traffic environments like motorways and retail outlets, the UltraCharge 180 offers high performance and can be upgraded in 30kW increments from 120kW up to 180kW. It features dual CCS2 universal charging cables for simultaneous vehicle charging and an integrated advertising screen for additional ROI. Safety features include under/over voltage, DC overcurrent, over-temp, surge protection, a built-in 30mA Type A RCD, IK10 impact protection, and IP54 weatherproofing.
The UltraCharge 400 provides ultra-rapid charging at scale, with modular power upgrades from 200kW up to 400kW and supports dual-vehicle charging. Its 150V-1000V dual power output segment improves power utilization, speeding up charging times and reducing vehicle downtime. This makes it suitable for conventional EVs and larger commercial vehicles like HGVs, electric trucks, buses, and boats, capable of delivering up to 80% charge in under 10 minutes.
All models integrate with Rolec’s 40+ charge point management partners and benefit from frequent over-the-air updates for the latest features. Mellon stated, “Our new UltraCharge lineup reflects Rolec’s commitment to delivering flexible, cost-efficient, and future-focused solutions that meet the evolving demands of fleet and public EV infrastructure”. Rolec, with 35 years of experience in manufacturing outdoor electrical equipment and 17 years in the EV charging industry, has supplied and installed over 370,000 charge points. EVbee, established in late 2022, focuses on innovative public and home charging solutions with an emphasis on durability, longevity, and reliability.
