Ohme Integrates Volkswagen Group API to Enable Home Charging Across Europe

Ohme has launched an official API integration with Volkswagen Group Info Services AG, giving EV drivers across Europe near real-time state-of-charge data inside the Ohme app for six VW Group brands.

EV drivers from six Volkswagen Group brands across Europe can now pair their vehicles directly with Ohme home chargers through a new official API integration with Volkswagen Group Info Services AG. The arrangement extends an existing UK and Ireland partnership and gives Ohme app users a near real-time view of their vehicle’s state of charge.

Highlights

  • Integration covers EVs from Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Škoda, SEAT, CUPRA, and Audi
  • Ohme app will display vehicle state of charge in near real time, drawn from the Volkswagen Group Info Services Data Hub
  • More than 100,000 Volkswagen Group customers across Europe already use Ohme for home charging
  • Builds on Ohme’s existing UK and Ireland partnership with the Volkswagen Group, first announced in 2022

A dedicated API for cross-brand vehicle data

The integration runs through Volkswagen Group Info Services AG, the Wolfsburg-based subsidiary of CARIAD SE that operates as the central interface for cross-brand vehicle data within the Volkswagen Group. Through its Data Hub, the unit consolidates static and dynamic vehicle data from Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, SEAT, CUPRA, Škoda, and Audi into a standardized format for third-party software providers.

For Ohme, the dedicated API replaces less direct methods of confirming a vehicle’s charge status. Drivers will now see live battery information surfaced inside the Ohme app, allowing the company’s smart-charging logic to schedule sessions against dynamic electricity tariffs without requiring the driver to estimate or input charge levels manually.

Why state-of-charge data matters for dynamic tariffs

European home electricity markets have shifted toward dynamic and time-of-use pricing, where rates can change hourly. Ohme’s smart chargers automatically schedule sessions during the lowest-cost windows on a customer’s tariff. Accurate, near real-time state-of-charge data lets the system know precisely when to start and stop a session, rather than relying on user-entered estimates or charger-side measurements alone.

The benefit compounds for households with multiple EVs or drivers on more complex tariff structures, where small scheduling errors can mean the difference between hitting and missing an off-peak window.

Executive comments

“We’re excited that Ohme is applying Volkswagen Group Charging Data to enhance its charging services,” said Lasse Schmidt van Hülst, Lead Sales & Key Account Management at Volkswagen Group Info Services. “As home electricity tariffs across Europe become smarter and more dynamic, Ohme’s expertise and software means this new integration with Volkswagen Group Info Services AG comes at the perfect time for EV drivers.”

Peter McDonald, Mobility Director at Ohme, said: “We’re genuinely proud to be extending our partnership with Volkswagen Group Info Services AG in this way. Having direct access to the vehicle state of charge data means our customers get a truly hassle-free charging experience — the app does the hard work, automatically finding the cheapest times to charge. It’s a real statement of where Ohme is heading and underlines its commitment to giving EV drivers the best possible experience.”

Building on the UK partnership

The new API rolls out across continental Europe and complements the company’s existing Volkswagen Group home-charging partnership in the UK and Ireland, which has been running since 2022. Ohme has not disclosed a market-by-market rollout schedule for the API integration or specified which model years are covered.
