Small Number of Janguar I-Pace Recalled Due to Fire Risk

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC, has initiated a recall for 21 units of the 2019-2020 Jaguar I-PACE vehicles, previously addressed under recall number 23V-369, due to a risk that the high-voltage battery may overheat, increasing the potential for fire. This recall, identified by NHTSA Campaign Number 24V085000, concerns the vehicle’s electrical system and requires urgent attention from owners.

In response to this issue, Jaguar advises owners to park and charge their vehicles outside and away from structures until the recall repair, involving a software update to the battery energy control module, is completed. This service will be provided free of charge, with owner notification letters slated for dispatch by March 28, 2024. For assistance, owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827, referencing recall number H471.

The recall stems from a discovery that vehicles previously repaired under recall number 23V-369 might still possess the defect due to the use of non-approved diagnostic tools during the initial fix. This has prompted a renewed effort to ensure all affected vehicles receive the correct software update, incorporating enhanced diagnostic routines to monitor and mitigate the risk of thermal overload.

Jaguar has identified all potentially affected vehicles through a meticulous review of service records, pinpointing those without the necessary software update. The identified vehicles were manufactured at the Graz Vehicle Assembly Plant between September 7, 2018, and July 22, 2019. The company has emphasized the importance of adhering to the recall instructions to prevent any risk of fire or smoke, which could lead to injury or property damage.

Owners can also seek further information through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov. This proactive measure by Jaguar Land Rover North America underscores its commitment to customer safety and the integrity of its vehicles.
