Stellantis has announced the expansion of its SUSTAINera circular economy activities across North America, focusing on the 4Rs of its strategy: Remanufacturing, Reuse, Repair, and Recycle. This move reflects increasing market demand for sustainable automotive solutions and aims to meet growing consumer interest in responsible practices. Alison Jones, Senior Vice President of Global Circular Economy at Stellantis, highlighted the company’s progress and vision during a keynote address at the AAPEX event in Las Vegas.
Key Highlights:
- Expansion of Remanufactured Parts: 35 product lines now available, with new additions such as air suspension compressors and PHEV battery packs.
- Reuse Business Growth: Over 1 million original used parts are now available for fast shipping in the United States, backed by warranties.
- Commitment to Repair and Recycling: Focus on extending the lifespan of parts and transforming waste into valuable resources through initiatives like alloy wheel recycling.
Stellantis has emphasized the growing interest among North American drivers in using remanufactured or reused parts. According to GIPA analysis, 45% of drivers are interested in the sustainability of automotive products, and 55% are inclined to use reused parts for vehicle repairs, particularly among electric vehicle owners.
Alison Jones underlined the strategic importance of expanding the supplier network to enhance the quality and scope of SUSTAINera’s offerings while staying committed to sustainability.
Remanufactured Parts Extension
SUSTAINera’s expansion of remanufactured parts now includes 35 product lines, featuring components like air suspension compressors, axle CV half shafts, touchscreen displays, and PHEV battery packs for Jeep® Wrangler. These parts, remanufactured to OEM specifications, ensure the same quality, performance, and warranty as genuine Mopar parts but with a lower carbon footprint and more affordable prices compared to new parts.
Reuse Business Growth
Since its U.S. launch in early 2024, SUSTAINera partner B-Parts has experienced rapid growth in the Reuse segment, now boasting over 1 million original used parts in stock across the contiguous United States. These parts, sourced from over 10 states, provide an eco-friendly and economical repair solution, all backed by a 6-month warranty and delivered within five days.
B-Parts is committed to offering sustainable repair solutions with a smooth purchasing experience, featuring multiple payment options and a 14-day return policy for individuals and professionals. SUSTAINera used parts help customers and repair shops opt for quality and sustainability while contributing to a greener automotive industry.
Repair and Recycling Initiatives
SUSTAINera’s approach includes repairing parts to OEM standards, covering components across body, interior, chassis, powertrain, and electronics. This strategy aims to extend the lifespan of parts, offering customers sustainable choices.
In the recycling domain, Stellantis has implemented a closed-loop recycling system for alloy wheels in North America. End-of-life wheels are collected, melted down, and reused to manufacture powertrain and chassis components. Similar recycling initiatives apply to plastics from body parts and precious metals from catalytic converters.
SUSTAINera’s Role in Sustainability
SUSTAINera represents Stellantis’ commitment to a circular economy, ensuring that its products and services are sustainable, transparent, and affordable without compromising quality. As part of Stellantis’ decarbonization strategy, SUSTAINera aims to contribute significantly to the company’s goal of achieving carbon net zero by 2038.
