Suzuki e VITARA Electric SUV Launches in India

Maruti Suzuki launched the e VITARA, Suzuki's first battery electric vehicle, in India with over 2,000 charging points and 1,500 BEV-ready service workshops supporting nationwide adoption.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited began selling Suzuki’s first battery electric vehicle, the e VITARA, on February 17. The compact electric SUV rides on Suzuki’s new HEARTECT-e platform, built specifically for EVs. Production takes place at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. Sales have already started in Europe and Japan, with exports planned for over 100 countries.

Highlights

  • Suzuki’s first global BEV launched in India through subsidiary Maruti Suzuki, built on the dedicated HEARTECT-e electric platform.
  • Over 2,000 exclusive charging points installed across more than 1,100 Indian cities, with a target of 100,000 by 2030.
  • 1,500 BEV-ready service workshops support the e VITARA nationwide, supplemented by mobile service vehicles.
  • Global export strategy targets more than 100 countries and regions from the Gujarat production facility.

Dedicated EV Platform Underpins the e VITARA

The e VITARA is the first model built on Suzuki’s HEARTECT-e architecture. This platform was developed from the ground up for battery electric vehicles. According to Suzuki, the powertrain delivers responsive acceleration and sharp handling. As a result, the e VITARA marks a significant shift for a brand historically focused on internal combustion engines.

Maruti Suzuki Expands India’s EV Charging Network

To support EV adoption, Maruti Suzuki launched its “e for me” strategy alongside the vehicle. The initiative focuses on reducing range anxiety for new electric vehicle owners. Key infrastructure investments include:

  • 2,000+ branded charging points across more than 1,100 cities at launch
  • A target of 100,000 charging points by 2030 through dealer and Charge Point Operator partnerships
  • A companion mobile app that lets owners locate chargers and monitor charging status in real time

Additionally, Maruti Suzuki has equipped 1,500 service workshops for BEV repair and maintenance. Mobile service vehicles further extend coverage to remote areas. Together, these efforts aim to build buyer confidence in electric vehicle ownership across India.

Global Production and Export Strategy

Suzuki positions the e VITARA as its first global strategic electric vehicle. The model is manufactured at the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. However, India serves as more than just a domestic market for the SUV. The facility also functions as a global export hub. Deliveries have commenced in Europe and Japan. In total, Suzuki plans to ship the e VITARA to over 100 countries and regions worldwide.
