Terawatt Infrastructure has launched its first medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicle (EV) charging hub in Rancho Dominguez, California, marking a significant step in supporting sustainable freight transport. Strategically located 12 miles north of the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, the hub serves as a critical resource for electric trucking fleets operating in and out of the nation’s largest container ports. This development aligns with growing efforts to electrify logistics and reduce emissions in the transportation sector.

Key Highlights:

  • Location Advantage: Positioned near major ports, enabling efficient drayage and regional trucking operations.
  • Charging Capacity: Features 20 DC fast charging stalls with a 7MW capacity, supporting up to 125 trucks daily.
  • Fleet Support: Serves clients like PepsiCo, Dreaded Trucking, and Hight Logistics, among others.
  • Operational Efficiency: Offers a reservation system, 24/7 customer service, and onsite technicians for reliability.
  • Future Expansion: Complements upcoming sites, including Rialto, CA, to create “electric lanes” for fleets.

The Rancho Dominguez hub is designed to meet the needs of multiple fleets with pull-through and bobtail charging stalls, delivering ultra-fast charging without requiring fleets to invest in their own depot infrastructure. Terawatt’s proprietary charge management system, coupled with in-house technicians and parts management, ensures seamless operations. This approach reduces downtime and enhances the reliability of EV fleets, supporting a transition to greener logistics.

Neha Palmer, CEO of Terawatt, emphasized the hub’s role in fostering collaboration among shippers, carriers, and infrastructure providers to advance sustainable technologies. The company’s broader network, including smaller sites for electric vans and buses, and its leadership in the I-10 Consortium, further demonstrate its commitment to scaling EV infrastructure. By enabling cost-effective charging solutions, Terawatt is helping fleets achieve better total cost of ownership while contributing to a cleaner future for freight transport.
