Humax EV Charging and Rightcharge have partnered to combine the Humax MX7 charger with Rightcharge’s payments platform, targeting UK fleets that need accurate home charging reimbursement. The integration uses charger-level vehicle identification to separate business and personal electricity use automatically.
Highlights
- The Humax MX7 uses ISO 15118-compliant PLC technology to identify vehicles at plug-in, enabling automatic separation of business and personal charging costs
- Rightcharge consolidates public, home and workplace charging into a single HMRC-compliant monthly invoice for fleet managers
- Vehicle identification occurs at the charger level rather than the vehicle level, broadening compatibility across mixed fleets
- Private users can also enable a registered-only mode that blocks unauthorized vehicles and sends smartphone alerts
How Vehicle Identification Works
The core technical feature is the MX7’s ISO 15118-compliant PLC communication. The charger reads each vehicle’s unique ID at the moment of connection. If the vehicle does not match a registered company car, the Rightcharge platform can ring-fence the cost or block the session entirely.
This addresses what the companies describe as “grey” charging costs. Traditional home reimbursement often relies on estimates or trust-based reporting. As a result, personal vehicles may be charged to company accounts without detection.
Broader Fleet Compatibility
Because identification happens at the charger rather than the vehicle, the system does not depend on specific EV models or manufacturer data access. Fleet managers can therefore scale reimbursement programs across a wider mix of vehicles.
For drivers, home charging is substantially cheaper than public charging. It also eliminates time spent at public charge points during working hours. Rightcharge handles reimbursement automatically through direct-to-energy-bill payments.
Security for Private Users
The integration extends beyond fleets to residential Humax MX7 owners. Through the Humax Charge app, users can pre-authorize specific vehicles. If an unrecognized vehicle connects, the system blocks the session and sends a notification. This protects against unauthorized energy use at home.
What the Companies Said
Jeff Kim, president of Humax, said the MX7 is “an intelligent, V2G ready charging solution purpose-built for fleet operators.” He added that the Rightcharge collaboration “extends access to efficient business charging reimbursement to a wider range of vehicles, addressing previous limitations caused by restricted vehicle data availability.”
Charlie Cook, CEO and founder of Rightcharge, called Humax “a particularly special addition to the rapidly growing lineup of Rightcharge compatible chargers.” He noted that both companies “share a keen desire to unlock the true potential of electric fleets as revenue-generating assets.”
The MX7 is currently available on UK mainland only. V2G functionality depends on vehicle manufacturer support, energy tariff providers and local grid infrastructure. Selling power back to the grid may require a software subscription.
